So…the show is doing very very very well ratings and metrics wise. Likely far exceeding Amazon’s expectations from what people are saying.

Positive: hopefully this moves Amazon to invest even more in the show and allow 10 episode seasons, more budget per episode, and attract better directors and so on.

Negative: will Rafe and the staff learn from their mistakes in S1? I think they made some pretty substantial ones and success might give them enough hubris to say “nah we we were right”.

There’s probably things they wish they would have done differently after seeing the finished product but couldnt because of lack of time/money.

Id imagine they focus more on EF 5 in season 2

Episodes 7 and 8 are going to be interesting in that respect.

Both were filmed almost a year after the others due to Covid.

Probably a better topic for post season but just wondering what you think was the substantial mistake(s).

I have lots of little things but I can't really think of something foundational thus far

I did. A bit surprised they released such a big promo. Have they done that for each episode?

Episode 7 was great, visuals looked markedly better, the cold open was fantastic(dragonmount) , more time in the ways, more loail, rand channeling / confirming he is the dragon, the blight etc.

Its sems to be setting up for a really good finale at the eye.

Totally agree. I just did a reread of the series. There are many nitpicks of the season, but the larger story is about to open up. The tigraine sequence shows you a glimpse into the larger story. They had to rush this season. I think this will get better as the seasons progress. They developed the lan and naneyeve storyline better than in the books.

I agree, love tons of the subtle character elements they are including. Rand was awesome tonight - defending Matt, going to Moiraine to accept his destiny and try and protect his friends.

Honestly the only thing that I didn't like was Nyneave trying to fight Machin Shin with the power - a pretty minor quibble. The foundation they are setting for Egwene as Amyrlin and Rand when he comes into his role as the dragon is fantastic.

I still really don't like Perrin, but I never liked him in the books either.

Yeah. I read this series as a teen into early 20s. Became an English Lit. Major and started reading “real” literature and got away from the series and never came back to its conclusion. I’ve only recently started reading fantasy again as an adult and will probably go back and reread this series at some point.

Honestly, I’m finding most of the interpersonal dynamics for relationships in the show to be superior to what I remember from the books. Once again, I’m a fan of the books but it’s been a long time.

That being said: I can appreciate that book purists are going to hate the alterations.

They’re doing a pretty good job with Rand, Nynaeve, Egwene, and Moirane.

Lan, mat and Perrin are getting butchered. Not really a surprise. Rafe and his all female writers room have clearly decided to focus on the female characters at the expense of mat and Perrin. Very “you get your main hero to be white, male and straight and that’s all you fricking get. You don’t get three of them.”

Disagree, Matt has been one of the best parts of the show- sucks they had to write him out of the last two episodes cause of the casting change.

Perrin has always been pretty lame to me, but I don't really see how he has been shortchanged in the show.

I've liked Lan and nyn storyline.

They've foregone spending more time with the EF5 to lay a foundation imo. Hopefully that investment will pay off in the forthcoming seasons.

I think it’s a small mistake. The boys in particular have really suffered. It lessened the Dragon payoff.

I’m not a fan of the actor playing Perrin. He’s interpreted Perrin’s reluctance and deliberateness as playing him as kind of a tard.

I can’t believe the amount of people complaining about The Blood Snow which was awesome

To me this episode also added clarity to the polar sides of the fandom.

For example, if you complain about the Blood Snow cold open, you cannot be taken seriously going forward in regards to the show.

Similarly, if you defend the weird Perrin has feelings for Egwene nonsense, you are clearly a shill for the show.

Most everyone should have these 2 correct viewpoints and diverge from there.

Ya perrins portrayal has been odd at times.

Blood snow was awesome, disconcerting to think about but the choreography was awesome. If they keep the fight scenes up to that level I am going to love it.

Really gave meaning to "dance the spears"

Perrin/ egwene thing wasnt necessary and there were tons of other things that could have been input there to achieve the same result.

It's the main reason I really think they are going to bail on gawyn and faile somehow and have perrin and egwen get together late in the series.

I don't really enjoy the above crackpot theory but I can live with it given my feelings about gawyn and faile

Faile is going to exist.

Probably, I think my theory comes more from a desire to avoid Gawyn than Faile.
