I agree with a lot of what you are saying.

I'm still enjoying the show especially on 2nd viewing.

Hey man I am glad you are. Seriously. I didn't find it without some value, but the things that bothered me personally were enough to push me away from it. I like to check into these threads to see how the show is progressing from where I stopped watching in the hopes that one day it may sound promising to jump back in.

The things that make me chime in are when the pompous know-it-alls say shite such as "you never read the books," especially when the shite they are saying is wrong. Rooad has been spot on with his analysis, so I jumped in to back up what he was saying against the others who try to disregard him with these stupid comments.

I don't think they are "wrong".

Mat is a nothing character until book 3, and not "Mat" until then. I think that's pretty much a fact.

Regardless, the show has gotten better and better in my opinion, and plays a LOT better on 2nd viewings once I'm able to divorce myself from preconceived notions.

What does this even mean? That he had no purpose? If so then no, not much. He was Taverin and the possible dragon reborn. Other than that he had no purpose yet. None of them did.

Or does this mean he had no character or personality yet? If so then that is dead wrong. He was clearly fleshed out from the beginning. They all were. You know who each of them is in regards to personality and disposition as well as desires and personal purpose.

The Mordeth scene was great, and it’s disappointing they didn’t use it in the show. It gave us the history of Shadar Logoth, it gave us the origin of Matt getting the dagger while emphasizing his personal character and flaws, and it was a very fun moment. I’m ok with the show not finding time for this the way LOTR didn’t with Tom Bombadil, but to cut this in place of dedicating an entire episode to gay Warders and a funeral is insulting to the source material and the readers

I understand that, I think they are having to speed the story along and feels like they are setting foundations for later episodes cause season 2 is going to have to somehow combine elements of books 2 and 3, and i'm assuming 4 as well with the white tower politics. Building up Siuan some so we are more invested with a character during the Schism and that kind of thing.

There are definitely scenes and stuff I think they messed up not including but I'm hoping that the foundation they built pays of adequately down the road.

I'll probably do a bigger post about that kind of stuff after the finale has marinated a bit.

I agree. My biggest gripe with RJ's writing is his inability to establish characters upon introduction. He just throws them in midmoment and relies on future events to define them. He does this with so many characters that they get lost in the shuffle and I have to go back to chapter summaries online to know who is who when they get reintroduced later in the books.

Sanderson is a master at this. He's so good at both refreshing the reader's memory when bringing back previous characters as well as smoothly introducing new ones when they arrive.

My opinion in comparing RJ to BS writing styles:

RJ- master at writing dialogue and giving a perfect feel of each character's personality. He makes them shine on a page. His flaw is in storytelling in that he too often gets lost in his own mind and doesn't translate it to the page very well. It creates boredom and confusion in the reader. What's funny is he even addresses this in an interview at the end of the audiobook of his final book.

BS- better story teller that can make 10 pages fly by with compelling deftness. His dialogue and expression of personality; however, can be very awkward at times. He's not bad at this, but he does not have nearly the skillset or deftness that RJ has.

Sidenote: George RR Martin is a master at all, and he is the perfect amalgamation of RJ and BS. Too bad he lost interest in his masterpiece

Pretty sure RJ had commented over the years that Mat in particular was not fleshed out at all from the beginning.

He really did not know what to do him until tDR, when he found Mat's voice and Mat finally got a POV section.

When was the first time you read EotW?

Mat doesnt have a single POV chapter, neither does Egwene (unless you count that variant prologue then she has 1), Nynaeve has 3, and Perrin has 8. Rand had 44.

Mat doesnt have a single POV but somehow he is fleshed out. For the majority of the book, all we see is him bitching from Rand’s POV.

After looking at that chapter breakdown by numbers, it pretty accurately represents which characters I liked the most (by a long shot) after book 1: Rand and Perrin

The leaker that has seemed to have watched every episode before everyone else is pretty unsure of it.

He has been super enthusiastic about almost every episode. This one he is insinuating that the changes are pretty vast and that its going to be extremely divisive, as if Book Reader weren't complaining enough.

Let's be real:

The end of Eye of the World is a total mess that makes no sense, and even RJ has commented that if he knew he would have gotten a bunch more books he would have done it differently.

A lot of it is almost entirely repeated in tGH in some ways, and even the end of tDR.

That being said...my imagination is running wild based on his comments.

I legitimately don’t care about changes for book 1 so its whatever for me. The whole ending is a clusterfrick regardless. The only change that potentially will be really bad is what they’re doing for Tarwin’s Gap.

I’m waiting to see how the sequences are executed at the Eye and at Tarwin’s Gap before I make my judgment.

I want to make sure I am understanding your position correctly before I make my statement: Are you suggesting the only way to flesh out a character is via POV chapters? If so then you're an idiot. There's no nice way to put it; you're just an idiot. Carry on with your bad self, homeboy.

It wasn't the best ending, but a mess is a bit overstating it IMO. I completely agree about the ending of great hunt being nearly identical. It was weak and lazy, and I was happy to see he got away from that trope in future books.

Yea I would say POV is the best way to know a character’s desires, motives, and personality. That makes me an idiot lol.

I’m saying he’s a flat character with little to no depth, and he is unbearable for the majority of the first book.

LINK

It’s a reddit thread. Sort by Q&A to see the responses made by the leaker.

There’s another leaker on a different sub who seems to be exaggerating what this guy said and making up other stuff to just be a dick and rile up a group of people who hate the show.

This guy on WotLeaks is legit though. He did this last week and was right about everything.

I believe LINK is what you are referring to. Dude seems to post much of the same things in the other thread you linked. I love the one reply a little further down where he goes on to give a thorough evaluation of all of these spoilers Maybe they are true; maybe they are not, but he pretty much nails the problems with this series. I mean, you love it, but that doesn't really count.

If these are true, and I see no reason to not believe them, then yeah it's going to alienate book readers big time.

This is the problem with modern hollywood. They don't care about the properties they are adapting. They see a built in audience that will give them an initial ratings boost, and they take that audience for granted. They just want something they can take and turn into something else that represents their agenda, and they think the built-in audience will stay for the ride. While a percentage will, most will angrily jump ship.

Season 2 will suffer a massive ratings decrease if these rumors are true. This show will die off after 3 seasons.
