And the Jasnah Shallan chapters even more arduous. They serve a point to break up the tension and action but they’re such a drag to get through

jasnah and shallan is why i gave up on stormlight...just couldn't power through it and hated the characters. i'm surprised more readers aren't bothered by that

Hated her book 1. Loved her in 2. Eh in 3. Not bad in 4, potential to be good with the GB storyline, which she is obviously the "connection" for.

Jasnah I honestly enjoy.

I don’t get the Shallan hate, she got a bit stale but I liked her on first read and on second read she was fine. Re FunBunch spoiler guess

SPOILER GUESS

I’ve 1000% thought Kal will die but take up shard in the process and become like harmony/sazed.

Not going to read anything so I don't see any spoilers, just popping in to say I'm a little over halfway through The Final Empire and I am loving it. The form of magic they use is so unique/cool.

Awesome! Glad to hear it.

Personally I like Mistborn era 2 better than 1, but there is a lot of disagreements between people on that.

I would not read Era 2 yet.

I'd read Elantris and Warbreaker (both are very early in his career to say the least, and are short by his standards)

Stormlight 1-3

Mistborn Era 2

Stormlight 4-5 (and the Stormlight novellas between books)

If you don't read them like that, once the Cosmere starts to come together, you might be a bit confused by some things and miss some things

But if you don't care and just want to continue with Mistborn, go for it! Era 2 is awesome and highly enjoyable

I was planning going to Stormlight after Era 1. Didn't think about breaking up 4-5 after Era 2. I'll do that.

I really wanted to jump into Stormlight right away because I didn't want to read 3 books to get to the really good stuff but this hasn't been a slog or disappointing in any way. I was halfway expecting to not like it too much because it seems like Stomlight is what is mainly raved about, but I feel like I'm definitely going to enjoy this. Got a 4 hour plane ride tomorrow so hopefully can knock a good bit of it out.

Where does The Final Empire fall on most people rankings of Mistborn? Glad to hear that Era 2 is as good or better than Era 1.

You don't need to. But there is a fairly big spoiler that pops up at the end Era 2 that has massive implications for the entire cosmere, and you'll pick up being referenced if you're an astute reader in Stormlight 4

You can also read Secret History after Mistborn Era 2

And it becomes even more apparent because they directly reference this major event in Stormlight 5's prologue that was just released the other day. So...

Finished The Final Empire last night. Damn, that was a good time.

Really enjoy Sanderson style, magic, story, character development, just about everything.

Some of the things at the end were pretty surprising...

I wasn't really expecting Kelsier to die. Figured he was going to be a main character throughout, so that was a bit of a Ned Stark moment for me. I really really liked his character so I wanted him to be more than "hope", but I get why he needed to be hope.

The Lord Ruler actually being Rashek was a pretty cool twist. Did not see that coming at all.

I'm not good at predicting stuff but you could tell pretty early on that Elend was going to be a future king in some way and I had a feeling that The Lord Ruler was an allomancer and a feruchemist.

How Vin killed the Lord Ruler was slightly confusing to me, just based off the magic system, especially since he was wearing rings and it was kind of just a brag on his part or to throw people off and make them think he couldn't be effected by them. Why were the bracelets the things that was letting him keep his power? Was it just the bracelets allowing him to be a feruchemist and keep his age younger? That lost me a little bit.

Also, I want to look up some character to have a better mental picture of a few things but I don't want to look something up and it end up showing Elend as a bright red demon or Vin as a queen or something like that and be some big spoiler The book cover for Book 2 shows their cloak as stringy, but I was picturing it kind of like something Strider wore in LOTR.

I wouldn't look anything up until later.

coppermind is probably where a google search will send you, basically the Wiki for the Cosmere, and the wiki page may spoil things basically immediately

****POSSIBLE SPOILERS****

I'm on my first re-read of Stormlight and DAYUM at all the stuff which happned that I have completely forgotten!

I'm just now back to the part in Urithiru where Fen agrees to allowing Oathgate access.

I like Jasnah, she reminds me a bit of Sheldon Cooper but with less goofiness and more self-awareness. She's initially presented as lacking depth, but now I'm getting some different aspects (talking with her spren about emotions, her problems as a child). She has limitations, she knows about them and they quietly bug her (but not enough to really try addressing them).

I enjoy the hell out of Shallan's sharp tongue and wit, but I'm growing to loathe her growing weakness of creating a new personality every time life gets a little stressful. It seems like the more she creates, the less stress needed in order to justify creating a new one (I don't remember how this all turns out, or even if it's resolved by the end of the current books).

***SPOILERS***

The more I read the more the death flags pop up around Kal and Dalinar. I feel like one is gonna be a fakeout and one will really happen. I'm calling Dalinar dies/becomes Fused and Kaladin ascends to Honor/becomes the herald king/something like that.

Dalinar makes sense. He's older, we saw his youth, we saw him pre-Szeth and the current war, we've seen (kinda) redemption. I wouldn't like it because I'm a big Dalinar fan but him losing and becoming Odium's servant would work, especially with 5 more books.

Kal? At this point it feels like it'd be a major death for the sake of a major death. He's the most popular character of the series and having him be a regretful death machine for so long only to die just feels cheap.

There is always another secret. I recommend you read in publication order as much as possible including the novellas the first time through.

The added benefit of reading in publication order is you can use the Coppermind without getting spoiled by using the Time Machine feature. This lets you see the wiki at a point in time before the publication of different Storrmlight books and only see entries up to that point.

Coppermind.net is the Cosmere's wiki. It is extremely comprehensive and works just like wikipedia would for anything else.

Time Machine allows you to put in a date so that you will see it as it would have been before that date, ie put in a date before a specific book's publication and you won't see any spoilers for future books

You will see the option to click on Time Machine at the very top of virtually any page of coppermind (and for sure the homepage)

Its been a long time since I have used that feature because I have been reading the cosmere books as they come out for a long time
