I've been hesitant to pick this up because everyone says how difficult it is to read. Is it really worth it?

I like to read at night before bed, and there were times I would not be able to just close the book and go to sleep. I think it's worth the effort, just for the fact that I've never had a book literally creep me out to the point of sleeplessness.

Salem's Lot - gets even creepier in the Epilogue (which goes back a couple of hundred years before the events of the book).

House of Leaves.
It's also one of literature's best experiences.
Have fun.

I found Pet Cemetery to be disturbing when I read as young adult.

Anne Rice's 'Interview with a Vampire' was good. Lot of N.O. flavor. Movie was bad.
'Lestat' was good also.
'The Shining' was also good. Different ending than movie.

I didn't find House of Leaves to be all that creepy, honestly. An excellent book, and well worth the read, but to me it was not especially scary. I can see how some might find it so, though.

I'm sure there are more scary books but the first 3 Odd Thomas books are great super natural books with a bit of spook.

Finally picked this book up. I haven't gotten too far into it - about 6 chapters or so - but I really like how this is reading like a creepy pasta or something from No Sleep. The odd stream of consciousness tangents that Truant inserts into the footnotes are a nice break from, what so far is, the main narrative. I hope it continues to hold my interest, especially when the book starts going off the rails, which I understand starts to get kind of strange and more difficult to read.
