I just realized Follet just released a prequel to Pillars of the Earth...

I'm considering it. Has anyone else been anticipating this or even started reading it yet?

Set in England 997 AD.

I will be reading it. I read the first three books in this series and they were fantastic.

I’m halfway through the audio book and it is really good.

Follett really brings these people to life.

I've really enjoyed his books in the past but anyone else get the feeling he is a bit preocupied with injecting sexual themes into his books?

I'm reading A Column of Fire now and some of it just seems forced.

I've enjoyed a fair bit of his books over the years (haven't read any by him in a long while though) but this has been a theme with him as far back as his first big hit, Eye of the Needle.

Wings of Eagles is an exception, probably due to it being nonfiction (and it's fantastic).

This is set during Ethelred's reign in England, which saw a war between the Anglo-Saxons and the Danes. Ethelred was also the father of Edward the Confessor, who lost the Battle of Hastings to William the Conqueror. Should be a nice blend of Anglo-Saxon, Viking and Norman characters.

I’m almost finished reading it, and feel exactly this way.

I loved the book, like all of the others in this series, but it feels like he's following the lead of George R. Martin with the sexual themes (particularly of the homosexual variety) in the latest book.

Nice. I love Follett and reading the last of the century trilogy now.

Pillars was awesome and was made into a great Miniseries too, fwiw.

Loved the book and series. The casting of the evil bishop was spot on!
You might also try watching In the Name of the Rose on Starz.

Currently about 30% into the new Follett book. Great so far. Sure it’s formulaic, but it works right?!
