In the lord of the rings, do you think the eagles were synonymous with America?

I could be way off base and looking too much into this, but I’ve often wondered if the eagles were almost a metaphor for the USA. Obviously Tolkien based his idea of Mordor from no mans land in his time fighting in world war 1. I’d assume there were other parts of the story that were based at least partially on his wartime experience as well. It got me thinking about the creatures that could drastically change the fate of middle earth if they decided to help but for the large part stayed out of the fight until the very end. Has anybody else noticed this similarity?

"As for inner meaning or message, it has in the intention of the author none. It is neither allegorical nor topical."

I.E. No, Mordor is not the Somme. No, eagles are not the United States.

Not once did I ever correlate the two.

It’s an interesting thought, but I really don’t think so.

Tolkien wrote in the prologue of one edition I have of The Silmarillion that he HATES allegories. So I would vote no.

I have the same edition. Anyone who is even a casual fan of LOTR must read the Silmarillion. It and its forward explain everything.
