Jon, Tyrion, and Dany are the three main characters of the book. No way Jon is dead.

Yeah, Jon's death would cause nothing but a chaotic North, which would have happened regardless if he didn't join the Night's Watch. Ned's and Robb's death was a huge catalyst for the rest of the series.

Sorry, no episode thread so I figured this is as good a place as any.
So I've come to the conclusion that something about this series turns TV watchers into Mel Gibson. I'm in a group me with a bunch of guys and the series came up. There are only two of us who have read the books and I simply made the comment that half of the characters don't appear in book four because they follow other character's stories instead and 4 and 5 are parallel. I immediately got accused of spoilers and was kicked out of the group, banning me from rejoining. What the hell is wrong with people? I mean, I used to think it was just TD, but apparently the entire world has turned into one big reader concentration camp. Sometime I seriously question my decision to read the books instead of just following the TV series. Its so fricking annoying.

They're just jealous of your literacy and subsequent intellectual superiority.
Seriously though, they sound like douches and not good people to hang out with.

Some can be assholes sometimes. It just sucks because we talked a lot about LSU baseball and US soccer and stuff and now I'm shunned from that conversation. I just don't get what about this series invokes such a knee jerk reaction in people to lash out the way they do. It would be an incredible case study in psychology and maybe sociology.

I refuse to alter my day to day conversation because some people are finally getting into the series. If I make a reference and unfortunately spoils something I am sorry. But the god damn series has been out forever. Read it if you want to know what happens. I will not spend the next 5 years guarding my tongue.

Just finished dance had some some tragic news that pushed my reading back. I still stand by thoughts that dance sucked but the epilogue was legit.
Why does everyone assume Jon isn't dead?

I mean, he may be dead for the time being, but the reason for that is that Jon's arc would then be pretty worthless. We've bonded with him for 5 novels, and he goes out that way for really no reason? Jon will be raised from the dead by Melisandre once she realizes he is the actual Azor Ahai.

Dance was filled with worthless story arcs.

If they add Jon to it, I'll punt a baby.

I think Mel is going to try resurrecting Jon. Why would the show writers put in the scene of Mel meeting Beric and Thoros for nothing?
This, she learned how to "say the words" from Thoros and the red god will raise him if he is AA.

Thanks, I'll look into those.

I don't know about you guys but, as much as I like speculation and have fun with it, I'm jonesing for a new book pretty bad.
Nothing to do but wait I guess.

It was a sort of last rites type ritual, Mel should be familiar with it. Remember that Thoros had no expectation of raising Beric the first time.

That's why my money is on Mel resurrecting him.

I'll settle for the next Dunk and Egg novella at this rate.

George needs to get a Lapband and start writing.
Has he even started writing for WoW yet??

During most of ADWD Mel keeps looking for Azor Ahai in her flames, but it keeps showing her Jon Snow. AA prophecy says he has to die and be reborn. The elements of his death conform to the AA reborn prophecy exactly. His last words are "Ghost", leading one to believe he is warging into Ghost, at least temporarily.
And from a writing perspective, Martin has never killed a main that way, and it's a typical Martin cliffhanger, just slapped at the end of the book.

He's read a few preview chapters, but it's hard to say how many of those were pushed back from ADWD and how many were fresh. I'm sure he's writing, but his man issue is his writing other crap and editing stuff along with a bazillion conventions.

I wish he would put off his Dunk and Egg novels and strictly focus on finishing ASOIAF but I guess that's too much to ask
. You'd think that with a highly successful HBO series that he'd be motivated to finish the books in a reasonable time frame.
