There's also The World of Ice and Fire which is coming out this October and can be pre-ordered on Amazon. It should have a bunch of background info on the history of Westeros and stuff. (Aegon's Conquest, The Faith Uprising, The Dawn Age, etc)

quote:
The children of the forest were the first known inhabitants of Westeros, during the Dawn of Days: a race
small of stature who made their homes in the greenwood, and carved strange faces in the bone-white
weirwood trees. Then came the First Men, who crossed a land bridge from the larger continent to the
east with their bronze swords and horses, and warred against the children for centuries before finally
making peace with the older race and adopting their nameless, ancient gods. The Compact marked the
beginning of the Age of Heroes, when the First Men and the children shared Westeros, and a hundred
petty kingdoms rose and fell.
Other invaders came in turn. The Andals crossed the narrow sea in ships, and with iron and fire they
swept across the kingdoms of the First Men, and drove the children from their forests, putting many of
the weirwoods to the ax. They brought their own faith, worshiping a god with seven aspects whose
symbol was a seven-pointed star. Only in the far north did the First Men, led by the Starks of Winterfell,
throw back the newcomers. Elsewhere the Andals triumphed, and raised kingdoms of their own. The
children of the forest dwindled and disappeared, while the First Men intermarried with their conquerors.
This indicates that the Stark prevailed in the FAR north and the First men intermarried with their conquerors, the Andals.
If the Starks prevailed , perhaps some have not intermarried with there conquerors. Maybe there are some "pure blood" Starks in the FAR north, with the Others. It's been said before and I dismissed it but maybe the Starks and Others will be in league with the Children to take back Westeros from the Andal hordes....

Maybe, but I think if that were to happen, neither Jon or especially Bran would have been attacked by the wights. Why would the Others byproducts be attacking their eventual ally?

The wights may be mindless re-animations.
The others, on the other hand.....
Were Others present when the wights attacked Bran?
It does seem pretty CRACKPOT though. I just read FAR north and jumped on it.

I think they mean above The Neck/The North. Winterfell was built by Starks during the Age of Heroes before the Andal invasion

I've long entertained the thought that the Others may be some more complex beings than justt evil bogeymen. They definitely seem sentient and even advanced in some ways. But I'm not really anticipating an Others, CoF, First Men alliance.
The Stark/First men connection with the CoF is much more likely though IMO. Just how that will play out is a mystery to me though including how it will impact their dealings with the Andals/Targs.

At some point in my sorta free time I'm going to go back to my OP at the beginning of the thread and start linking some of the theories for newbies.
At some point.
At some point.

Stealing the stories off the Internet, would that be considered paying the iron price for them?
