Saints QB Drew Brees claims he was scammed by San Diego jeweler Vahid Moradi who sold him an $8 million diamond ring. Per TMZ Sports...
quote:

The New Orleans Saints QB has filed a lawsuit against Vahid Moradi -- who runs the CJ Charles jewelry shop in San Diego, the city where Brees began his NFL career.

Brees claims he's been buying jewelry from Moradi for years -- and has dropped roughly $15 MILLION on some insane pieces ... including watches, earrings and rings.

Problem is ... Brees claims he recently had his jewelry independently appraised and was told his collection is worth $9 MILLION less than he paid.
Moradi's attorney Eric M. George fired back...
quote:

"Drew Brees aggressively purchased multi-million dollar pieces of jewelry. Years later, claiming to suffer ‘cash flow problems,’ he tried to bully my client into undoing the transactions."

"Mr. Brees’s behavior and his belief that he was wronged because the jewelry did not appreciate in value as quickly as he hoped both demonstrate a lack of integrity and contradict basic principles of both economics and the law."

"He should restrict his game-playing to the football field, and refrain from bullying honest, hard-working businessmen like my client."

I mean, if you're rich, do whatever you want. But this is reason #47 why dropping $8 million on pretty much ANYTHING is dumb. WTF do you need an $8 million dollar ring for? The $1 million ring just doesn't do it for you?

Custom jewelry doesn't appreciate Brees. I mean if the jeweler told you it would, that's on you for being dumb.

Thought he was better business man than to spend $8.0MM on a ring and not get it appraised before buying. And, why spend $8MM on a freaking ring unless it has super powers

I bought a Maxima from Benson Nissan for 30K, later when I traded it, the same dealer said it was only worth 15K. Who buys a 8 million ring for f%ck sake?

I think the TMZ headline is misleading. Reading the article, I take it that DB spent a total of $15M on "several pieces" (dropped roughly $15 MILLION on some insane pieces ... including watches, earrings and rings) then had it appraised and the appraised value was $9M less than he had paid.

I assume he was buying this jewelry as an investment he planned on selling some years later. Not sure he case a case in court, unless the jeweler and original appraiser conspired to misrepresent the value of these items.

If they were appraised at $15MM years ago and now appraise at $8MM he may have a case. Diamonds have not devalued in that time period.

No way a guy named Vahid would ever do this.

So that's why he needed more cash in this latest contract.

That is a huge amount of money, even for Brees. What a dummy.

What kind of businessman sells $15M worth of merchandise for $15M? Of course the stuff appraises for less than the purchase price! How else is a merchant spoasta make money?

This case is a bit unique, but don't diamonds generally appraise for slightly more than the resale price?

It's his money. That said, I hope he has been as charitable with his personal fortune (not his foundation).

Buying that much expensive jewelry is insane. I understand buying a Rolex, 2 ct. diamond, stuff like that...but 15 million? He should know better.

Vahid's business partner is named Efrain. I just think it's funny his lawyer used the word refrain when his client's name is Efrain.
