Miles on the hot seat despite chance to finish season 10-3

While Saban had an 8-5 year in 2002, 2 of those 5 losses were OOC to top 15 teams. This happened despite losing our starting QB and required a blown coverage in the Arkansas game to not make the SECCG that season.

And if LSU goes 8-5, which would require the first bowl loss of the Miles era, two of the 5 losses were to the top two teams in the country. And that's including the fact that we are now down to our 4th string running back and at various times this season --- and in important games --- have been relying on a second string QB, third string RB, second string TE and second string center. What's your point?

I think Miles is setting us up so he can take the UM job and we will be glad to see him go.Why, you ask. He doesn't want the same reputation as Saban has gotten as far as deserting teams and being a paycheck whore. Regardless of validity, or accuracy, thats his rep everywhere except here in Alabama. Kinda like"How do you make a crew WANT to get off a neuclear submarine?"

Crowton is a complete failure as an OC. The no-huddle gimmick has been a huge flop. With a new QB and young players, he should have never kept up the nonsense. Talking about a lack of intellectual flexibility - doesn't work, try something different. Most of the plays are called in late, the O has no time to think or prepare - thus the "predictable" calls. It has NOTHING to do with JJ or anyone else on the field, those guys are excellent athletes and would thrive under a gifted coach. If GC doesn't go, then Miles needs to hand over the great guys he's recruited to someone who knows what to do with them.

Can we please get another coach. One that is smart enough to handle game situations.

I truly miss those days when LSU finished strong, seperated itself from the rest of the conference and kept their feet on the throats of lesser opponents.

Will someone please tell me how much Miles' buyout is if they were to fire him now. Also where can I go to verify that amount?

Why doesn't anyone mention LSU also has a chance to go 8-5 just as easy as 10-3?

LSU is in a bad way right now. First, there's no chance that Michigan would want Miles at this point - they watch TV too. And no other big time program would be interested in Miles now.

Second, what top notch offensive coordinator would want to work for a guy like Miles? Surely, all good coordinators will be aware that Miles is on the hot seat, and would be reluctant to go work for a possible lame duck. We might get lucky and pick up a young, relatively unkown coach with nothing to lose who turns out to be a diamond-in-the-rough - but that is a long shot.

LSU should be seriously considering cutting Miles loose now. It's the old "pay me now or pay me later" scenario. The longer LSU waits, the more damage likely will be done.

Well put and succinct. It's more than enough to put Miles on the hot seat NOW, not next year. The losses continue to our toughest opponents and we have NO chance of winning SEC or National titles with continued losses to these programs. With the talent that Miles has been able to recruit, there should be little to no drop off from year to year. These last two seasons are not acceptable at LSU, period. The Ole Miss loss was the result of poor coaching and utter stupidity. Our players, play their tails off every week only to be undone by boneheaded coaching. I think Miles should be on the hot seat immediately and I have not seen almost the entire fan base this upset in a very long time. Consensus is building (maybe already there) that Miles has lost the fans after the debacle on Saturday at Ole Miss. We had ONE dominant win against a quality team this year and that was Auburn who was reeling at the time. We nearly lost to Louisiana Tech for goodness' sake! I think your assessment that he must at least win the West next year to retain his job is spot on. 7-8 in the SEC, possibly 7-9 and even 8-8 are just unacceptable. No excuses can justify it. It's time to put up or move on!

After watching the replay last night, the only thing I can say is that we need to have the whole offensive coaching staff - including Miles - piss tested immediately.

Last week, BEFORE the game at Ole Miss, I said that I did not think Miles was a good coach, but apparently a good recruiter. Now it should be obvious to all. The last two years have arguably been the best recruiting classes in the country and look what he has done. It's the Dale Brown syndrome. The best players, the lousy teams. This team does not play good football because they are not well coached. They have been making fundamental mistakes all year. Not getting plays in time is coaching. Teaching a young quarterback, who really is not a drop back passer, how to get rid of the ball sooner is coaching. Not having a good passing quarterback in the SEC is coaching. The horrendous play calling and decision making is coaching. And that was true BEFORE Saturday. Now it is so clear to anyone who looks objectively. You just don't do an onside kick with six minutes left in the half after you just scored to get the momentum, and your defense, at that point, was starting to come around. Stupid, stupid, stupid. And the debacle at the end was just as inexcusable as thousands have already said. Gary Danielson and Verne Lundquist were apoplectict. Jim Hawthorne and Doug Moreau were apoplectict. I was apoplectict. The only thing worse, maybe , that I have ever seen in the SEC is the year Mark Richt had time running out, inside the five, and ran the ball. The clock ran out and Georgia lost, but you can count on Richt to do something like that once a game. For Miles, you can count on it persistently. He has to go.

Miles is not going to get fired this season but he does need to make a change. That change should be getting rid of Crowton. That guy is not an offensive genius like he was billed to be. We need an OC that is going to take all the talent we have and make something out of it. We also need an OC that is a good QB coach. Something we haven't had in a long time.

The West is the most competitive it as ever been and will be even more competitive in the next 3 years. If Coach Miles cannot win now with sloppy coaching then I think a change needs to be made now. Why should we let our recruiting suffer by letting other SEC coaches feed off Coach Miles this year and next by keeping him one more year? I see this as a business decision. I love the time Coach Miles has been here, he gave us a National Championship. I don't think it is fair to LSU to suffer it's elite Football status by hoping he can turn things around. He was suppose to turn things around this year and I don't see next year being an easier road.

I am pessimistic.

I find it hard to believe that LSU would make a HC change until after The Downfall.

The Downfall is when not only the W/L record in the SEC is unfavorable, but, also, when recruiting has been adversely affected, and the program is in need of major re-building.

The only reason we had a chance against UGA (at the end) was because of the fortune of benefitting from a misjudged 'excessive celebration' call against UGA that favoured LSU which ultimately gave us an opportunity of decent field position. The pathetic offensive effort we had during the remainder of th 2nd half indicated we would have great difficulty moving the length of the field without the benefit of one, or more, bad calls which went our way..
The excessive celebration call against us was not as timely and had a lesser impact on the outcome of the game. Regardless, the point is- if it had not been for pathetic preparation, discipline, team calling, clock mgmt, etc- we would have neever been in these 4th qtr holes to begin with.(we SHOULD have lost to Miss State).

As a previous poster indicated, the process and the decision making is more important than the outcome of W and L's when you rely on luck and athleticism to be your only weapons...

I still say Miles will fulfill his boyhood dream and take the Michigan job after the Ar-Kansas game and before LSU's bowl game. I know others have been mentioned as R. Rod's successor, but it was Bill Martin & L. Carr (and Miles leveraging LSU hard to get his current deal) who were against it.

Now, Martin's lame duck, Carr's so comfy in his velvet coffin gig there that he rarely visits his on-campus office, and Rod is an absolute gonner. And, if that job's open, there's no way Miles will let that opportunity pass again. Sure, he's got a great job here--who wouldn't love being head coach at LSU, provided they had the stones to withstand rabid criticism, even when you're winning--but he's made no secret about his longtime "want" to be The Real Michigan Man.

No matter what happens up there, if they hire another coach, Miles will have to wait at least 3-5 years for another chance at it (and even then, there's no guarantee he'd get it, given how his street-cred is erroding each year here).

LSU and Mich. can find a way to settle Miles' contract/buy-out issues, and he'd even take a modest pay-cut to land the job. All LSU needs to do is get a very, very firm "agreement in principle" with our next head coach before they agree to part ways with Miles. Then, later that day or the next, Miles has his press conference in Ann Arbor, followed by LSU's formal announcement and introduction of his replacement. This way, nobody (except Rich Rod) gets hurt, fired or has to even "quit." It's just two guys taking over as head coaches at two of the elite football programs in the country and everyone moves on.

Plus, with Florida still playing in the SECCG and then maybe the BCS title game, LSU can get the best available coach out there BEFORE U. Meyer decides whether he's going to N. Dame and BEFORE Fla. can hire whoever's at the top of LSU's wish list. I'd fly Boise State's Petersen out here along with his wife, his kids and his OC, put them in a temporary witness-protection program and trot them out the nano-second when we can officially hire him and allow TigerNation to celebrate and re-energize our fine young players, our recruits, the loyal and crazed fan-base, our alumni, donors and of course, the Univerity's students, faculty and staff. We have all earned, and deserve, this early-Christmas gift.
