re: How will the 2010 LSU schedule look now? (with CUM leaving)
Posted by nickelbeernight on 12/26/09 at 7:08 pm to Harv1790
A lot has yet to be determined. Few freshman recruits really make an impact anyway, but recruiting will suffer. I like your chances versus UF even in the swamp.
Longer term, we'll be fine - even Zook beat you at Tiger Stadium with a freshman QB.
It is a bummer. I am sure similar to how you all felt when Saban left. (Health vs. Pro, probably takes the sting off for us a bit, but not much - this sucks)

I would not credit 2-loss Les for your '07 National Championship.
I would thank USC, Va Tech, OU, and UGA all for having 2 losses that were "worse than yours", and for the system for pairing you with Ohio State who sucks (I know, we beat them too - it goes both ways)
In any normal year, you would never have sniffed the MNC game. He got lucky. If not for that - he'd be packing his "damn strong" personal belongings and heading to Tennessee-Chattanoga.

Have you guys considered hiring Ron Zook out of Illinios?
Just kidding, I would hate to be in your position right now. However, looking ahead to next year, with potentially over 10 starters leaving for the NFL including Spikes and Tebow, Florida has a lot to recover from.
Every game you lost was close this year. You guys are in a much better position bext year, with key players returning and some great young studs in last year's recruiting class having a year to mature.
I am not sure Miles is the answer, but you will have a great season next year and have the tough games at home.

re: How Loud was it at the start of the game?
Posted by nickelbeernight on 10/12/09 at 3:04 pm to DBG
I was there - it was loud at times, but if that is all you got - The Swamp, blows TS away. I know that this is not the case. My bet is that had it been close, it would have been really loud. Most of the fans sitting around me were demoralized and bitching about Miles, Jefferson, etc. Therefore it was not as loud as it could have been.
Here is the way the Head to Head stacks up over the past 20 years.
- H-T-H, UF-15 wins, LSU 5 wins
- SEC Titles, UF 8, LSU, 3
- National Titles, UF 3, LSU 2
Over the past 10 years
- H-T-H, UF-6 wins, LSU 4 wins
- SEC Titles, UF 3, LSU, 3
- National Titles, UF 2, LSU 2
The balance is definitely tipping the last 10 years. This should be an awesome annual rivalry for years to come. We'll have a new QB and some some other shoes to fill next year. Luckily the game is at our place.

We'll have to score a heck of alot to take your crowd out of the game. I'm not banking on that and I would bet that UM is not either.
Our hope relies in the Defense - turning in a performance like they did in last years NC game against OU. We REALLY need to shut you down on O, to take the pressure off our O to win the game.
Otherwise, it is going to be a VERY loud night in BR.

Every Saturday, with rare exception, there are 2-3 SEC games that look just like your GA game last week. Nail Biters filled with IF-Then-What scenarios. It makes for good(?) debate, but in the end, the cream usually rises. "Good Luck" is a part of EVERY championship run this decade. One Loss + SEC Champion = Birth in MNC.

I went to BR in 2003 for the game. Whoever said it said it best - walk around - keep a smile and a positive and fun attitude, and you'll have a great time. There will be a few drunks who will do the Tiger Bait thing - just smile and laugh. It is fun. These guys know how to do it. I had more food than I could eat, and more beer than I could drink. When we won the game, the fans were exceptional. I was blown away. You will be too. Win or lose it will be a memory you will be glad to have.
On that note, I'll be there Sat night as well - I can't wait. I wish we were going to be at full strength, but whatever. We'll give it our best shot. The key will be for our D to shut you down and hope it is enough for Brantley.
We used to look at the schedule and ask when we are playing Tennessee and Florida State. Not the case anymore.
See y'all Saturday.

amen. a win is a win from here on out for both florida and lsu minus the rent a wins. I think Brantley coming in will present us some major issues. Thoughts on him coming infront of a hostile crowd for the 1st time?
This is Brantley's third year. He has been around the program for a while but is untested when the game is on the line. The night crowd will give you the edge for sure. You have won something like 22 night games in a row. Will he get flustered and throw pics? Will we be able to execute a simplified game plan? Honestly, I think he'll hang in there and which ever team wins the turnover battle wins the game. That is basically saying that if Brantley doesn't throw pics means he's handled the pressure which will mean a positive result for us.
Chris Leak won in 03 as a true freshman at Tiger Stadium, but that was a afternoon kick-off, my first game at your place. I will be driving down with my wife for the game. We are pumped to get into the crowd and see what happens. I have always had a good time with y'all.

Thats why you play the games. You don't think USC gets lucky from time to time? new england gets lucky from time to time?
you all got lucky a good bit in 2006. I bet you didn't bitch about the hardware and said "we got lucky"
I totally agree - You take'em when you get'em. I just said that you did not win the game in 2007 because you kept the offense off the field -that is simply wrong.
Luck plays into EVERY national championship. Our 2006 (blocked Field goals, key losses by others late in the year) and your 2007 (2-losses, but at the right time) are perfect examples.

They key is keeping that offense off the field, similar to what we did in 2007 against them.
That was not the key in 2007. You got lucky on 5 of 5 4th down plays. Take away one of those and you lose. Our offense scored 24 points.

Are you kidding me? UT was something like 3-9 with Chavis. They kept it close in most situations, but still, we regularly came out on top.
Harvin was the man. We miss him big time, as well as Louis Murphy. Murphy would be having a great year with the Raiders if they had a QB who was worth a sh.....ooops.

As Chris Berman would say - "That's why they play the games"
Every Gator fan is worried about this one. The schedule worked in our favor this year, and save the SEC Title Game, if we get there, LSU is our toughest game on the schedule. We think you can win. You shouldn't, but you can.
The scenario I fear as a Gator fan is much like 1997, where we were a better team that got in a funk and could not dig our way out of it. The key for you will be to sieze momentum early by forcing a few turnovers and converting them to points - making the Gators play catch up. Get the crowd rocking and then riding the momentum to an epic victory.
In 2007, you were the better team, we just almost pulled off the upset. 5-5 on 4th down is hard to beat - Hester was a stud. A definite playmaker. Tebow will be looking for redemption. He is pretty good in those situations. We'll see.
I'll be there as in 03 and 05. You are all great to hang out with. In victory or defeat. (Although a little easier to take when we win...)

As a rule I try not to watch game day unless I need a laugh . I went to the cotton bowl in 03. We stayed in the UT hotel by mistake. It was like a chapel on new years eve. Those people r just sad.
Then after the game some tx guy said we were Wierd because we party even if we lose. I
I was at that game as well. As a conference homer, I was pumped to see LSU out in force. Love that Bradie James became a Cowboy. He was dominant in that game as was Michael Clayton playing two ways. Simms/Williams just had a better day.
re: Once again another SABAN-MILES discussion (STATS)
Posted by nickelbeernight on 9/19/09 at 9:16 am to DP40
You guys fail to mention that "Two Loss Les" "backed in" to his National Championship with a 2 loss season. The only reason that there is a thread and continued discussion is that down deep apologists, loyalists, and haters all know that Miles will be Saban's Beyotch, for many years to come. I am afraid that after Tebow & Co, the road for UF is uphill as well.
Now, go root for your "Damn Strong Football Team" and beat ULALA!

This is a great thread. Having watched both, I think whoever has home field advantage would win an LSU-USC game this year.
Although a true freshman QB can beat a very good LSU team in Tiger Stadium. The Great Chris Leak did it in 2003.
Tennessee...the beat down is neigh
