LSU ranks No. 10 in ESPN's updated 2022 College Football Power Index Rankings. Here's how ESPN describes the FPI:
quote:

The Football Power Index (FPI) is a measure of team strength that is meant to be the best predictor of a team's performance going forward for the rest of the season. FPI represents how many points above or below average a team is. Projected results are based on 20,000 simulations of the rest of the season using FPI, results to date, and the remaining schedule. Ratings and projections update daily. FPI data from seasons prior to 2019 may not be complete.
FPI Top 10:
1. Alabama
2. Ohio State
3. Georgia
4. Clemson
5. Notre Dame
6. Michigan
7. Texas
8. Oklahoma
9. Miami
10. LSU

LSU should be around 5 or 6. People will be very surprised this year at how good we actually are. We’ve added some key depth and it’s all quality guys. Not only quality but veteran quality depth. That will make a huge impact on this team, not to mention the quality of this staff. It’s going to be fun watching this team play under real leadership and with coaches that have much experience handling a big time program. If we can figure out the QB situation early and have at least 1 RB who can take over a game, we’ll kick some arse this year. I think we’ll be pretty good on defense with the transfers we’ve gotten. Those corners we picked up look like NFL corners. We’ve had much younger talent with much worse coaching and still did a pretty good job so I think we’ll be fine.

After what tug boat captain did to the program, I would’ve called you a liar if you told me we were in the pre-season top ten. CBK doing work.

Year after year Texas starts off in the top ten and finishes in the bottom ten, yet ESPN can’t see the pattern.

The ESPN FPI has to be the most bogus and useless rating system ever in college football. Every time I hear ESPN or the SEC Channel reference the FPI, I automatically roll my eyes in disgust and automatically dismiss everything that was said.
