New LSU offensive coordinator Steve Ensminger was on the ESPN 104.5's program "Hangin' with Hester" Thursday and said that sophomore quarterback Myles Brennan will get the first snap when Spring Practice starts up in just a few weeks.

Ensminger added that quarterback Lowell Narcisse and Justin McMillan will also get reps with LSU's first team. Per The Advocate:
quote:

"I've kind of told him, Myles right now, 'hey, we're all in here starters' and that's the way it's gonna go. Yes, Myles will take the first snap of spring practice and all that. But as we get into teams and as we get into scrimmages and everything else. I've gotta allow these other kids, Lowell [Narcisse] and Justin [McMillan] to get with the first group and run the reps and everything else. And it's my job to do a good job of playing to their strengths …

"Hopefully as we put this together when [any of the QBs are] in the ballgame I'm not asking those quarterbacks to do what another quarterback can do, and I can play to his strengths."
Brennan, a pro-style passer from Long Beach, MS appeared in six games last season, completing 14-of-24 of his passes for 182 yards, one touchdown, and two interceptions.

So no qb competition

So... give... no one the first snap? Never let either practice?

So Brennan is starting and we’re running option plays with Narcisse

I don't understand why Tiger fans seem kind of down on Myles. I get being down on O and on the program in general, but this is a coveted QB who has weapons galore.

Idk what happen behind the scenes with the coach's decision on the QB situation but if Brennan is as good as people hype him up to be then he should've beat out Etling by mid-season.
user avatar
SirWinston75 months
But O is stubborn as hell (just like Miles) and presumably stayed with Etling with the belief that he gave LSU the best chance to win each week. He didn’t feel he had the luxury of developing Brennan.

Who cares who takes the first snap in Spring? Let there be a fair QB competition and play the player who earns the start... Like Orgeron and Ensminger's jobs depend on it - you know, because they do.

Lowell has to take it. 6'2 231 lbs same size as Dak Prescott, faster than him as well.
user avatar
Barbellthor75 months
The only thing he HAS to do is earn whatever he gets.

He’s taller than 6’2”, closer to 6’4”. I’m 6’3” and he’s a little taller than me.

He also has 2 surgically reconstructed knees and hasn't played more than 5 games in a season since his sophomore year of high school.

So, what you're saying is we're going to get a full QB comp, with the first snaps going to the current leader? Also, we're probably running two QB's this year?

I like Narcisse, I do. But I think Brennan is the better passer of the two. Narcisse is a better runner, but we have plenty of guys on the field that can make plays with the ball in there hands. LSU's problem has been getting the ball to those play makers. I think Brennan provides a passing game that opposing defenses will actually have to game plan for. Just my opinion tho...
user avatar

Narcisse isn’t that bad of a passer. You people act like he’s Brucie from The Longest Yard. The QB who can pass and run is the one who will win championships in today’s day and age.
user avatar
voodooidotwo75 months
How is this even a question? Miles is way more advanced passing the ball. With the running game taking a step back this year we have to go with the passer
user avatar
the paradigm75 months
A one-dimensional QB isn’t gonna win you any championships.
user avatar
voodooidotwo75 months
Neither is a running qb. JJ and Harris were the last two to prove my point but there is many more.
user avatar

A pick every 6 attempts. Yep. Sure looks advanced to me.

Narcisse isn’t gonna be satisfied running “packages” — he wants to be starter. He’ll be at a new school by next year. Never stood a chance under Coach O and his “pro style offense or bust” mentality.

HE chose to come here. If he only runs "packages" then it's because he isn't the best QB. That's how competition works. If he beats out Brennan, he'll start. Best man wins. Don't be a pussy......Narcisse won't

People reacting to this negatively have an agenda and HAVE THEIR OWN MINDS MADE UP who's better, for God's sake the coach said look at it like "we're all starters"....Mett had great success against Bama with a bad line, Chad Kelly did too, when Clemson beat them their QB had success...we have all seen both types do well and fail....I want the best overall QB running the system that fits him best, some people think the coachs don't, who was it that sealed Narcisse to LSU and just threw all his eggs into a DT QB, but he's now prejudiced against DT QBs.... confirmation bias is a hell of a thing

One QB has had some snaps in SEC games, the other hasn't had any game snaps in two years, kind off an easy call as as starting point, it will play out from there

I'm ok with Brennan taking first snaps. But if this starts to sound like last year's rhetoric of a fair competition, I'm done. This talk that we're all starters is just to keep someone from transferring. As long as the coaching provide the opportunity truthfully and are honest with the others about their chances, I'd be ok with the results. We'll see the truth soon enough.
user avatar

Translation : as soon as Brennan hits a slump for half a quarter you'll be crying that the wrong about is in the game despite having 0 information to base anything on.

Wow, this has nothing to do with a shite show. I have been a negatiger LSU fan for a long arse time. One thing I have learned is that positiger LSU fans have been mostly correct in our coaching situation right now. They didn’t want to change from Les Miles, because of what we are dealing with now. They warned us of consequences of firing Les Miles under this AD. They loved Les Miles and still questioned Les Miles as our coach in the past, but knew the risks. They knew Alleva would fail and that there will be consequences. Those consequences involved are what we are dealing with right now. Be careful of what you wish for. Remember, LSU football is always going to be political in the State of Louisiana. Our state is a shite show, mostly because we are broke, and realize that everything about LSU will be dictated about our state budget. Majority of people in Louisiana don’t get give a frick about LSU football, it has 0 ROI to them. Why would they give a frick. It is only entertainment.

For you numbnuts out there, Myles Brennan is the best QB on the roster and it isn't close. Brennan set damn near every passing record in Mississippi high school football. Narcisse hasn't played a complete year of football in 3 years and is coming off 2 major knee injuries. Narcisse also has difficulty with acuracy and intermediate passes. These facts are FACTS. Now LSU is going to open up the offense and has WRs coming out the arse but some nitwits on this board bitch about developing the best passing QB on the roster. I swear some of the idiots on this board couldn't coach a little league football team but think they know football. It is hillarious and pathetic at the same time.
user avatar
AustinKnight74 months
But is he finally up to 225 or still 200-205? Thats the biggest rant question
user avatar
Geaux Engineer74 months
So if you gonna claim that Narcisse has difficulty with accuracy and intermediate passes as facts, don't you think you should back it up with some proof? We are supposed to believe some assh0le running his mouth about something he has no proof of? Yea Narcisse didn't play in 3 years but he did dominate the river parishes. I expect him to be rusty but "difficutly with accuracy and intermediate passes" Last season we damn near threw no intermediate passes. Unless you are referring to those bullshite shovel passes. So my question to you is how could he struggle with something our offense rarely ran last season? I'll hang up and listen.

Stripes... do you coach?? Bc to make an ASSUMPTION that Myles Brennan is the best quarterback on the roster is BS!! Myles Brennan got some game action last year and there wasn’t anything overly spectacular about him so I don’t know what your thing is or that you feel like you’re some type of guru but you don’t know crap! Am I saying that LN is better?? Absolutely not!! Let those three battle it out on the field and see who wins!! Remember MB in all that he did (National records and all that) didn’t have offers from every school in the country.... so just sayin

All you need is a qb that can scramble when u need him to and Brennan can do that.. 2013 the offense averaged over 35 ppg. And was a very good offense with the least mobile qb Iv ever seen. They had not much problem getting the ball down field all season. The defense was the problem giving up huge plays.
