LSU's search for a new defensive coordinator could be coming to an end as Minnesota Vikings defensive back coach Daronte Jones is expected to take the job on Ed Orgeron's staff, according to Bruce Feldman.

Jones has spent the last five seasons in the NFL coaching defensive backs with the Vikings, the Cincinnati Bengals, and the Miami Dolphins.

Before his time in the NFL, the Capital Heights, Maryland native served as defensive backs coach at the University of Wisconsin in 2015 where he worked under Dave Aranda and was the secondary coach at the University of Hawaii from 2012-14.

Jones, 41, has some ties to Louisiana as he coached safeties at Nicholls State in 2002 and was the defensive coordinator at two High Schools in the state — Jeanerette (2004) and Franklin (2003).

Alabama loses and brings in new coaches all the time yet have been dominate for decades. Why because they win the recruiting battle year in and year out. Having someone who can attract and retain recruits is just as important as coaching. Remember this is college the schemes and prep work is extensive but not at the level of the NFL. They key is to have someone install a good style of defense and I believe this guy will bit more importantly he will also recognize the importance of getting talent to come to LSU.

I guess LSU is no longer Coach O’s dream job because if this is the DC hire he makes then his dream will likely end this coming December. I hope I’m wrong but I’m afraid I’m not. Bo 2.0 is not the hire to go with after the pitiful season we had last year!

Not that anyone cares, but I can’t even finish anyone’s post that contains something about lack of experience. Joe Brady in 2019 should be enough of an example to at least give the guy the chance to fail or succeed. Joe spent 2 seasons with Sean Peyton and made a huge difference. Everyone seemed cool with the new OC just bc he spent some time with Brady. The fact that he was with Aranda for a year to go along with his other stops is enough experience to get a shot in my opinion. Good luck coach.

His one stint as a defensive coordinator, you know, the job he's being hired for, was at Bowie St. Yes, you read that correctly. His last 5 years have been coaching DBs with the Vikings, Bengals and Dolphins. Can anyone name one pro bowl DB from any of those teams during that timespan? I'll wait. His resume is less than impressive, but similar to the Pelini hire last year, the sunshine pumpers will blast anyone who questions it. Such is life, as an LSU fan.

I want it to work because I'm a huge LSU fan and want to win but I have my doubts. I would also add that we have one of the best dB coaches in college football so what skill set does he bring. With on the field coaches being limited who coaches safties lbs and dline?
