LSU freshman defensive tackle Davin Cotton has entered his name into the NCAA Transfer Portal. The news was first reported by Shea Dixon of 247Sports and LSU confirmed the report, according to The Advocate.

Cotton appeared in two games during the 2018 season, recording one tackle vs. Southeastern LA and two tackles vs. Rice.

The Shreveport, La native was four-star prospect out of Evangel Christian Academy and was rated the No. 9 player for the state of Louisiana for the class of 2018.

Schools now have the option to recruit Cotton but he could also remove his name from the transfer portal if he chooses to remain at LSU.

He’s not fat enough to play Nose or explosive enough to play DE. This 3-4 scheme Aranda runs scares me a little. Sure, it has its benefits, but you HAVE to find a big space eating NT who’s in good enough shape to give you 40-50 plays a game. And who doesn’t care about his stats. Louisiana seems to consistently produce many more 4-3 DTs along the line than 3-4 LBs. An what dudes who dominate as a 4-3 with 20 sacks and tons of tackles for losses gonna want to go be primarily a space eater while the guys behind him get all the glory. Same with our DEs, who all probably used to be great DTs in high school, racking up sacks and t.f.l.s, but have to bulk up to take on guards and lineman, while the LBs sit back and make all the tackles. I’m not, saying they’re all selfish, bad teammates or anything of the sort,

Maybe you could tweak Arandas defense for him genius.

That sounds plausible.

Seems like college is following the pros with all this BS. It's like a FA for college. Players will no longer wait their turn and jump ship ASAP. I say bye. If you don't want to earn your playing time then you don't deserve to play on Tiger stadium.

He’s great, hope he stays. If not we’ll be fine but would rather have him along as a Tiger.

I hate to hear this, I really think there's more to the story because he had a lot of potential to get some playing time this year. As we've learned you can't have too many D-linemen and Db's. Come on Cotton stay with it.

The 2020 recruiting class becomes even more crucial. We’re off to a decent start at DT for ‘20

Hate to hear this...however, if it is the best decision for him, I am ok with it

Hope that he decides to stay, but will understand if he leaves.

If he's #54, he's too fat for the SEC.

Get used to this guys....recruits are going to use PORTAL as a way to put pressure to secure playtime. Entitlement is ruining this generation!!!! This should be a one way ticket and no second chances. These kids want to go through a 2nd recruitment process and have no regards for the team or School!!!

There has to be more to this story. I don’t think playing time is the issue.

It's a bold move, Cotton. Let's see if it pays off for him.

I've always thought that Jenkins, after watching him as a Jr when they played Woodlawn in the playoffs his Jr year, had the higher upside due to his size, strength, quickness combo....hope he lives up to it....we're gonna need him this year

I hate that he's leaving BUT he's leaving for a reason, either he felt he couldn't compete at the SEC level or wasn't mentally tough enough to fight through, or both, either way if he's leaving I'm guessing he wasn't going to contribute...hate to say it because I'm from Shreveport but another former Evangel player that didn't live up to expectations

So those are the only 2 reasons he would want to leave the program, huh?

Wtf, man we are going to miss him and he was going to play. I cant believe he bounced when he knows as a redshirt junior or redshirt senior. He would be top dog and be physically farther along then everyone... man that is upsetting. I was really hoping these guys were going to see the value with the difference the experience is going to make for fehoko lawrence and guys like Logan, Farrell... DANG MAN

This kid is very athletic for his size and i expected big things from him at LSU. This sucks.

Could this be because of scholarship numbers?

I was wondering the same thing. If he is being encouraged to look around. The guy appears to be a little undersized for DL at the SEC level.

More of 4-3 DT and he’s not playing much this year anyways. Maybe just testing the free agency
