Sam Spiegelman with Rivals is reporting that LSU sophomore cornerback Eli Ricks is entering his name into the NCAA Transfer Portal.

Ricks, a former five-star prospect from Santa Ana, CA, signed with the Tigers as part of the 2020 class. He played in all 10 games during his true freshman season last year with seven starts.

There were some rumors following the 2020 season that Ricks was thinking about transferring but he remained with the team and played in six games this year.

Ed Orgeron announced on October 13 that Ricks would miss the rest of the season with a lingering injury and would have a procedure done.

I would not call this a brutal loss. In his 6 games he played this season, barely has any stats to his name in those 6 games. Can he cut it in the sec ? I cant remember what he did in 2020 didn't watch the season as was on vacation every weekend touring

If there’s one position I’m not worried about hitting the transfer portal, it’s corner. The Tigers basically get whoever they want for that position. Hate to see the kid go, but he is absolutely replaceable at LSU. I really think there needs to be a culture change with the next staff. It seems like kids only have the NFL in mind when they come to LSU. I think evidence of that is all of the kids who have either opted out or had surgeries that could’ve waited till the end of the season.

Allegedly he wants an NIL deal, Ohio State is promising NIL deal(s) to him. Just passing along what I heard.

Some of our fans are such little bitches about these things. We are going through a staff change, this crap goes with it. Imo it shows just how strong LSU is that we haven’t had more of this and our players are still fighting for wins. One player simply puts his name in the portal and the program was burnt down by Ed O. That reaction and comment is worse than him looking out for his own future. The next coach is going to have to change some things, we know that, he’s going to likely need the transfer portal himself. If a player leaves, that’s the position we want them to leave open because it’s the position that we can replace him with ease. He’s had lots of bad luck while he’s been here and it could be as simple as that. Maybe he feels that he needs a fresh start somewhere and that could be good or bad for him. He doesn’t know it, you don’t know it, no one knows it so what’s the big deal? I’ll also add that he didn’t leave yet, he’s simply put his name in the pool for now. Maybe that’s him gauging what his options are so if he doesn’t like what’s coming, he has options? If he likes the hire, he could have plans to remove his name from the portal and start getting ready for a nice season next year! No one knows? Relax!

All Americans going into their junior year who are first round locks don’t just leave when there is a coaching change. This is something a freshman riding pine would do. I agree we’ll likely be fine but let’s not pretend there isn’t something rotten in the state of Denmark

I’ve said this before and got DV’d to hell for it, but the transfer portal, more than NIL, more than CFP and the diminishment of bowl games is going to kill college football. It breeds a spirit of discontent and shortsightedness.

I agree with you on the portal and NIL - the portal is destroying the game. But the playoff and diminishment of bowl games is GOOD for the game. There are 40 bowls - 80 of the 130 FBS teams go bowling. It's a joke. The playoffs and NY6 incorporates the major bowls, so it's all good. I don't give a damn that the vast majority of the other silly bowls are left out. They'll still exist and won't be more or less important than they are now.

Alabama or UGA. I can pretty much guarantee it with no knowledge of the situation.
