Following LSU's 38-35 loss to Houston in the Texas Bowl, quarterback Michael Van Buren spoke to reporters and said that he has spoken with Lane Kiffin about returning to the team next season.

Buren Jr., a sophomore from Bowie, Md., played in seven games with four starts this season. He passed for 1010 yards with eight touchdowns and two interceptions.

Hopefully there were talks of changing positions….

Van Buren showed pretty good for someone born in 1782. (In my humble opinion)

Apparently he was told he was not the #1 QB going into next season. Otherwise there would be no “sitting on it”.

He made some great plays with his feet Saturday and had some really elite throws, but then there was some throws where he missed a wide open receiver in the flat by 5 yards underthrown.

I remember when this board wrote off Daniels for his throwing. Seems like most of you all have the memory of a goldfish.

MVB may not be Daniels. But he would be much more dangerous in Kiffin’s scheme.

If he wants to stay and battle whoever we bring in (and we HAVE TO bring someone else in), good for him. Just can’t commit much in the way of NIL to
Him.

People, he is not the championship qb we need. It’s obvious

barely acceptable backup

He threw for 267 yds, 3 TD and zero interceptions with no running game and a subpar Oline against a good defense and you think he's barely acceptable as a backup. Thank God you don't coach.

I would like to see him stay, get coached up, and participate in an open competition for starter with one of the Portal guys much more than potentially line up against him at his 3rd SEC school.

But this is one of those instances that I'll be good with whatever Coach goes with.

DV me to hell, but ima tell yall now, if he stays and develops under LK for 2 more years, he could be the next Jayden. Bookmark this.

He has a lot of work to do to be a starter at a big program. Several of those sacks were on him not reading the defense and making sure he had protection. His arm strength is average at best.

He needs coaching. Clearly he lacked that here.

I believe our entire line is in the portal now. GOOD!!! They are horrible.

He has actually improved since his first start this season. Both in throwing and running outside the pocket.

Who knows what he can do with an OL and run game, but at the same time, even if he isn’t a starter, it makes your play for a stud portal QB a little easier bc you’d have a backup and might be able to pay more for the portal guy.

Someone explain to me where do all these offensive line guys think they are going to? They are hot dog S$&@ and are trying to get a payday ?

If LK can do what he did with Chambliss, there is always
a possibility of him developing. Ultimately it comes down to
MVB’s ability to read a defense as to how good he can be.

With no O line to speak of, no running game, the defense pretty much knew what was coming and yet MVB passed for 267 yds, 3 tds and no interception. He had more passing yards than Weizmann, the MVP of the game. What an improvement for him. Not saying he will be the one but he deserves kudos for his performance. So some of y’all need to stop badmouthing him.

He doesn’t throw well. That isn’t an offensive line issue.

This is something elite coaching fixes.

If he’s the starter, better prepare for 8-4 at best.
