LSU has unveiled the alternate uniform and color changing helmet that players will be wearing Saturday against Mississippi State to honor the Silent Season of 1918. Per LSU:
quote:

One hundred years ago, LSU football players hung up their cleats for a greater cause. Many students and faculty of the Ole War Skule left the campus to serve in World War I, continuing the school’s military tradition and canceling the 1918 gridiron season.

In honor of those who did not return, 30 trees were planted in the Memorial Oak Grove with one additional tree dedicated to “The Unknown” missing in action.

To commemorate the century mark of the Silent Season of 1918, LSU will emerge Saturday, Oct. 20, from the Tiger Stadium chute in specially designed uniforms that salute the past and pay homage to heroes.

See more pictures and details of the uniform here.

Plain uniforms and embarrassing. LSU should inform Nike and their god, Colin Kaepernick, to get lost.

Excellent! Awesome to pay tribute to Veterans. Now win the game, LSU!

These are stylish, meaningful and also transient. The best thing to do is win the game, let the kids keep the shoes, and auction off the helmets and jerseys to charity with the proceeds going to Hurricane relief. Louisiana has had great fortune this season with hurricanes, but other southern brethren haven’t been so lucky.

Let me choose my words carefully. There is absolutely 100% no question that this is a great thing to do (honor these WW1 era Tigers.) No brainer. What I'm not getting necessarily is the connection b/w this uniform design and honoring them. Couldn't the same features have been added to the traditional LSU uniform? It almost sounds like some sort of hammy Nike selling point to justify the uniform. Is there something particularly about a purple iridescent helmet that screams out WW 1 era?

No doubt about it, they are justifying these uniforms by including the WWI Tigers... but I have to thankful that our wild uniforms have a meaning. I believe Nike has it in the contract that they get to make alternate uniforms every few years (for some schools is it way more frequent), but at least they are taking the time to do some research and include features that represent our history. I like to keep it traditional, but every two or three years, I don't mind it... so long as it ties to the school. And I am all for represent the 1918 boys.

Subtle oak leaf pattern and “1918” on back of helmets are classy acts.

Helmets are nice, and theme is very respectful of the 100 year old sacrifice during WWI. I can appreciate the tribute, but it’s not something I’d want to see again as I like the traditional LSU uniform. No need to improve upon perfection once you’ve achieved it.

You do know that the man in this uni is Jacob Hester, right? He and Moscona were talking about it yesterday on the ride home. Pretty cool.

Jmo, but I don't care for the numbers font. Other than that it's a damn slick alt uni combo. The scheme is nice and the helmet is just sick. I dig it.

I think LSU should never change the Gold/White/Gold... ever... but these are fricking SICK. Beautiful. Finally, an alternate uni that is worth a damn. Very nice job. Can't wait to see them in action.

Like they saying, watch the video before commenting or your opinion is irrelevant. Purple to Gold helmets are badass!! I like the all white and oak pattern. The Warrior helmet pattern with the Purple to Gold is going to look great under the lights of Death Valley!!! Stay until it's over and give our players the support they've earned. GO TIGERS!!! 37-7 "We Comin" It's going to be a hellava game! Can't wait!!
