LSU sophomore tight end Mac Markway announced Tuesday that he will be entering his name into the NCAA transfer portal.

Markway, a former four-star prospect from St. Louis, Mo., appeared in 12 games as a true freshman in 2023, with one start vs. Mississippi State when Mason Taylor was injured.

He caught three passes for 16 yards and one touchdown in 2023.

LSU's tight end room for 2024 will be led by junior Mason Taylor, sophomore Ka'Morreun Pimpton, and freshman Trey'Dez Green.

Kids even get to cop out from quitting now.

He was still going to get a good bit of playing time as the primary blocking TE in 2 TE sets and his dad loved LSU. He went on several hunts and fish in trips in his one year with son in Louisiana. Wish the kid the best. Hopefully this just means that Green really is that damn good.

Why does every player feel the need to do these disingenuous write-ups? He barely played. Nobody cares.

Perhaps he had been hoping for more 2-TE sets but just didn’t see that happening in practice. Alternatively, maybe the guy is just homesick or misses his connection with his former HS coach that lost his job.

I don’t get these guys leaving after one year. BK loves the TE. He would definitely play here. Good luck but I see this guy transferring again when he doesn’t start immediately at his next school.

Glad he provided us with the goodbye tweet in letter format. I hope he also buys a full page ad in the advocate tomorrow too for those Tigers fans that aren’t on Twitter and need his note for reassurance and closure.

I thought it was a class act, wish the young man good luck.

A class act is making the decision the year before or sticking through the toughness and transferring after season. We are 26 days away from season opener and homie decides now is the time to leave, after hours of practice, training, coaches dedicating time and energy into developing him further to be the best he can be. That’s not a class act, that’s a cowards move.

May have been a family type thing, but since he’s entered the portal, I doubt it. Sounds like it’s an emotional immaturity thing from the angle it’s been played.
