LSU head coach Ed Orgeron addressed the media Thursday after practice and said that he does not expect starting "buck" linebacker Arden Key to play in the season opener vs. BYU.

Key has been practicing with the team this fall but is still recovering from offseason shoulder surgery.

i have a feeling this is just a ploy so he won't have to play as much this season so he'll be less likely to get an injury for the draft, nothing adds up ahead of schedule? now he's missing the first game? what?

Clowney II. Wonder if he'll play a half vs Bama at least.

Well one of those guys are going to be the next starter after key is gone. So i guess lets give the the young men a game, u never know one of them might be a star!

As long as he's back for conference play we're good. The game experience the young guys get will be invaluable moving forward.

Sorry but should have had surgery after the season with no delay

Someone much wiser than me pointed out the likely reasoning behind these. Basically with Arden's personal reasons for stepping away from the program LSU was in limbo on whether he would be apart of the football team this season. So they were not going to fit the bill for a surgery and recovery for him with the possibility of him stepping away.

To Lsu101205 I'd argue if he was injured playing for LSU, they should foot the bill regardless.
