LSU's starting defensive tackle, Maason Smith, announced Tuesday evening that he has declared for the 2024 NFL Draft.

Smith, a redshirt sophomore from Houma, La., came to LSU as a five-star prospect and had a promising freshman year in 2021 but missed the 2022 season with a torn ACL.

He played 12 games this season and recorded 28 tackles, 2.5 tackles for loss, two sacks, and two passes defended.

With Smith and Mekhi Wingo headed to the Draft, LSU will need to replace both starting defensive tackles next season.

Tape doesn’t lie, he was shite last year. Good luck but he’s at best a day 3 pick.

he'll get drafted, just on potential alone, but realistically, he shouldn't... i've never been more wrong about a commit in all my years following recruiting... truly thought he'd be the 2nd coming of Dorsey, and he was basically the polar opposite

I say undrafted free agent.

Very sad. We lose more players to the draft that go nowhere. Stupid decision…

This is how little kids think. I want it now even though it might be $4 mil this year compared to waiting 1 year for $20 mil.

I get what you’re saying, and I think it’s a poor decision on his part, but if somebody offered me $4M or possibly $20M later, I’m taking the $4M now.

Really, I can give you $4 million now, or wait 12 months you have $20 million. You take the 4?

He’s 5th-7th round pick at best. Extremely underwhelming season. Whether it was his injury or lack of effort, only he knows. Good luck young man.

Bad decision for him, he should have stayed and got some real coaching from a DL coach for full yr

Good luck to him but I'm with everyone else that this is a poor decision on his part. What is his draft grade? Second day guy at best and possibly even a UFA. Unfortunately this happens every year here.

Based on what he did while at LSU, this impacts the team zero percent.
