LSU wide receiver Kyren Lacy turned himself in to authorities Sunday night after being accused of causing a fatal car crash on Dec. 17 that killed a 78-year-old man, injured two others, and then fleeing the scene.

Lacy was jailed and with charged with negligent homicide, felony hit-and-run with death, and reckless operation of a vehicle. He was later released on $151,000 bail, according to police records, per ESPN:

According to a news release from Louisiana State Police on Friday, Lacy was allegedly driving a 2023 Dodge Charger on Louisiana Highway 20 and "recklessly passed multiple vehicles at a high rate of speed by crossing the centerline and entering the northbound lane while in a designated no-passing zone."

"As Lacy was illegally passing the other vehicles, the driver of a northbound pickup truck abruptly braked and swerved to the right to avoid a head-on collision with the approaching Dodge," a Louisiana State Police news release said.

"Traveling behind the pickup was a 2017 Kia Cadenza whose driver swerved left to avoid the oncoming Dodge Charger. As the Kia Cadenza took evasive action to avoid impact with the Dodge, it crossed the centerline and collided head-on with a southbound 2017 Kia Sorento."

Police alleged that Lacy, 24, drove around the crash scene and fled "without stopping to render aid, call emergency services, or report his involvement in the crash."

Herman Hall, of Thibodaux, Louisiana, who was a passenger in the Kia Sorento, later died from injuries suffered in the crash, according to state police. Hall was 78.

The drivers of the Cadenza and Sorento also sustained moderate injuries, according to police.
Here is the statement that Lacy's agent, Rocky Arceneaux released on Jan. 10 regarding the incident:

Mama, life had just begun
But now I've gone and thrown it all away
Mama, ooh, didn't mean to make you cry
If I'm not back again this time tomorrow
Carry on, carry on as if nothing really matters
Too late, my time has come
Sends shivers down my spine, body's aching all the time
Goodbye, everybody, I've got to go
Gotta leave you all behind and face the truth
Mama, ooh (any way the wind blows)
I don't wanna die
I sometimes wish I'd never been born at all

Nothing like a sincere lawyer written client statement.

“The facts will ultimately demonstrate the truth.” Meaningless. Normally you’d expect that to be followed by something like, “and Karen will be fully exonerated.”

The crash scene reconstruction and witness statements secure the warrant for his arrest.
He may have not have been the operator but who knows.
Innocent until proven guilty.

I wonder who takes the rap for some money. Who ever it is they better get paid up front.

So we know who’s gonna be WR 2 on the Mean Machine next year behind Michael Irvin. I just hope they continue the winning streak against the guards.

How did he drive around the crash scene if he passed cars and they swerved not to hit him? Wouldn’t the crash happen behind him? Not saying he’s not liable, but what are the facts and what are emotional statements? I feel like the one car that swerve left over the centerline needs to have contol of their vehicle and why are you swerving across the center line and not away from the road? How do we know the other car wasn’t speeding and lost control playing a factor in the crash? I feel like there are plenty missing here. Was he probably speeding and passing cars illegally, yes, was he the sole cause of the wreck, how can anyone be sure? And how is it know for certain he knows there was a wreck if he passed these vehicles at a high rate of speed, with tint on the car and didn’t look back, we don’t. Just seems irresponsible to convict someone based off statements given from one side. Due process seems like the proper thing here, but it’s the internet and the jury has already come down with a verdict I guess.

Just to add he’s guilty of something. He played a role. Just curious to the rest of the facts. Tragic situation regardless. Prayers to that family.

No he didn't. He didn't turn himself in 'after the fatal crash'. He fled the scene. Felony hit and run. Later, after he realized they knew who he was, THEN he turned himself in.

Any time after the crash is, well, after the crash.

Now if it said he turned himself in immediately after the crash then you'd have a point.

So once again, it could be 5 years after and it's still after the crash. Not before, not during, not immediately, after.

Oh, it would still hold true 100 years later. It's after the crash.

RIP Herman Hall. Thank you serving this country. Sorry your life was ended too soon by this recklessness. I hope God brings peace to your family.

He caused the crash and left the scene is the same as being in a crash and leaving the scene.

Why did he elude the police for so long? It’s a bad look, just making matters worse.

He caused the wreck on 12/17, then on12/19 he issued his instagram “thank you lsu I am going pro” post. Says a lot about him.

So he caused another person to kill someone? Damn, imagine the guilt the other person must feel at that if true.

Should I have swerved right...

The front vehicle swerved right. The behind vehicle swerved left, not wanting to hit the first vehicle in the ditch. It was a reaction to the arse in the charger coming at them in their lane.

Wait. Now I’m confused. Not saying he isn’t liable at all but how do you get charged with a hit and run when you didn’t actually hit anything? The law is written such that if you are tangentially involved you are obliged to stop?

If he caused the wreck, it's still hit and run

Truth is, he fricked up and needs to pay for it.
