ESPN College Football analyst Kirk Herbstreit was very critical on his podcast this week about how LSU players celebrated the National Championship on Monday night. Per TheSpun:
quote:

“I will say this: as much as we’re celebrating this team, I wasn’t a real fan of the post-game stuff, the OBJ stuff with the money,” Herbstreit said on The College Football Podcast With Herbie & Pollack. “The way they handled themselves at times. If it’s just about 2019, great. But this is about staying power, right? This isn’t the finish line of their program. Don’t they wanna win in 2020? Don’t they wanna win in 2021? I almost feel like it’s all the chips in, we made it, that’s it and forget everything else.”

Gotta love good old fashioned butt-hurt Kirk Herbstreit - QUOTE: "I have Ohio State No. 1..." "..Ohio State has the most complete team..." "..Oklahoma’s kind of similar to what Ohio State’s doing.." then LSU brings the butt-hurt, and Herbstreit is like, QUOTE: "But this is about staying power, right? This isn’t the finish line of their program. Don’t they wanna win in 2020?" Baahaaaa!! I guess Kirk somehow believes Ohio and Oklahoma sitting quietly at home watching the Nat. Championship on TV will somehow prepare them for 2020 better than LSU celebrating like the FIRST TEAM IN HISTORY TO GO A PERFECT 15-0 BY BEATING SEVEN TOP 10 TEAMS!!!, while taking home the Heismam, O'Brien, Unitas, Maxwell, Thorpe, and Biletninikoff, awards...ten AP All SEC Team, four AP All American TEAM, AP Player of the YEAR, AP Coach of the Year, and re-wrote the NCAA record books... Kirk Herbstreit - QUOTE: "..But this is about staying power, right?.." whaa? .....good comeback Kirk

The guy is just a biased pussy....always was...always will be. Remember how he got on Burrow for his taunting of the Texas fans doing the beauty pageant type wave to them. Funny, no telling what the Texas fans were yelling at LSU players during that game...bet it wasn't "nice play, Joe". Herbie is the lowlife, hypocritical piece of sewage that doesn't mind finding anything he can about LSU...you think for one microsecond if Ohio State did some of the things he is whining about that he wouldn't downplay them. Of course he would!

BTW, he was NOT just crirticizing OBJ. He said, "The way THEY handled THEMSELVES at times."

What a pathetic, petty, mean-spirited comment. Criticizing OBJ is one thing; but to criticize these fine young men for celebrating after busting their tails for 12 months to become the GREATEST COLLEGE FOOTBALL TEAM EVER is ridiculous. Kirk, I hope you realize that comments like this reflect the inadequacies in your on psyche; they do NO damage to our fine young men, coaches, university, Louisiana, and Tigah fans everywhere. You NEED professional help (and I know, because I am one of those professionals). And as others have said, their celebration has nothing to do with future years. You're starting to sound like Little Nicky, a joyless soul. You should at least take some joy in that your Buckeyes didn't have to be embarrassed (AGAIN) in the Natty by our Tigahs. Geaux Tigers!

I like Kirk, and I honestly feel kind of like what he's saying is close to my own thoughts. Might not be quite the right timing or tone right now for what he's saying, but the OBJ stuff after the game has definitely been a dull spot on an otherwise brilliant night.

How LSU players and one of its former players celebrates has ZERO bearing on whether program has staying power and wants to win more than one natty in bcs era....this is an exceptionally caddy remark by herbstreit.....i believe he is a big lsu fan overall but that doesn't give him the right to act like a chick who just got dumped and start tryna rain on LSU parade.....and speaking of parades, WE NEED TO HAVE A NATIONAL CHAMP PARADE FOR THE TEAM ASAP ROCKY, JUST LIKE THEY DID FOR THE SAINTS BACK 80 YRS AGO WHEN SAINTS WON LOMBAWDI

Well, he’s not wrong, and OBJ’s antics we very disappointing for someone who claims to love their school.

Whutevs brah...who are you to judge the way he chooses to celebrate....clearly he was happy for his team and supporting his team....he prolly has more money than he knows what to do with and also knows many college players don't have much money at all, so connect the dots no biggie.....

He mad cause OSU could get out there own way, and he’s lucky they didn’t make it to NOLA

I think Herbie keeps it all pretty straight. I watched every bit of that game standing in front of the tv and didn’t even know he had sons at Clemson

OBJ is a fool and often and ceremoniously lets everyone know it.

I can see where he’s coming from... for Jefferson to take the $ and for burrow to say “yeah it was real, I’m not a student athlete anymore” can come across like “it doesn’t affect ME cuz I’m gone” but what about your brothers who will suit up next year possibly under NCAA sanctions. The whole vibe comes across like “who cares we won it all this year”

The reason Herby is mad is because he has 2 sons on the Clemson football team. Was it a conflict of interest for him to call that game?

They just worked an entire year with 1 goal in mind...win championships. Not only did they do that, but they did it in extraordinary fashion. Let them celebrate. As for OBJ, that dude should be banned for a while from the program.

Herbstreit has declined significantly as a broadcaster over the last few years.

Other than OBJ who was NOT on the team, he's not even specific. He talks in generalities about HIS perception of what players were thinking after the game. Sour grapes.

Good take. OBJ is not on the team. I also thought the cigar thing was blown out of proportion by a whiney chic at ESPN and the rent a cop who saw his chance at 10 minutes of fame.
