Back in October after beating the Baltimore Ravens, former LSU and current Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow talked about how SEC Stadiums were louder than the NFL, which has helped him deal with crowd noise at the pro level.

Burrow and Bengals are now headed to Arrowhead Stadium this weekend to face the Kansas City Chiefs in the AFC Championship and will have to go against one of the best home-field advantages in the NFL.

Former NFL placekicker Lawrence Tynes, who played with Chiefs for two seasons, saw Burrow's previous comments and thinks he's in for "a rude awakening."

Pretty sure Burrow is up for the challenge...

What does everyone think about Tynes' claim that Arrowhead is the loudest place in sports?

I'd take Tiger stadium in a noise contest. I have been there and could hardly hear for two days afterwards. Even Kroger Field got deafening for UK-Florida. Once you can't hear anything any additional decibels are meaningless.

I’ll quote Steve Spurrie during is fun-n-gun-days on opponents stadiums “sure it was loud…during pre-game” Basically you hang have a hundred on them in the first half, and things get quiet. Go get them Joe!!!

I've never been on the field at an SEC game or an NFL game (only ever been in the stands), so I wouldn't know. However, I know that Tynes, who claims Burrow is in for a "rude awakening" regarding the noise at Arrowhead compared to SEC venues, played his college ball at Troy, so I'm skeptical that he has the experience necessary to determine the level of noise Burrow is used to.

I was on the sidelines for a lopsided SEC matchup at Death Valley. When the defense comes out, ITS LOUD!

Whether it is or isn’t louder at Arrowhead is irrelevant. The point was Joe has played in stadiums in the SEC that are louder than most, if not all, NFL stadiums, so dealing with crowd noise isn’t a new experience for him. As others have pointed out, once the noise reaches a certain level, it actually makes no difference as to your inability the hear anything other than a roar. If you are used to playing with that roar, that one stadium has a somewhat higher decibel doesn’t really have any additional impact on the players.

I'm a Bears fan but don't go the games. We had a problem a few years ago where when our offense would have a big play everyone would start cheering the rest of the drive. They had to remind everyone to shut up when the offense was on the field

Been to both, SEC stadiums are much louder. Chiefs fans don’t know what they are talking about because they don’t have a real SEC team. They are comparing Arrowhead to Mizzou!

Ummm I think the freakn point is that it is loud as frick on a weekly basis in the SEC and arrow head or barrow said won’t make a bit of difference to Burrow on game day. Imo Burrow seems to play better the louder it is so I’d actually tone it down a little if I were “big bad arrow head fans”. You’ll see! You will NOT shake this guy up with some noise and the big bright lights. That’s how you get him cranked up and ready to beat your ass!

Been in both Arrowhead & Tiger Stadium many times for big games. Arrowhead is the loudest outdoor venue in the world. Down the road in Lawrence Allen Fieldhouse is the loudest indoor venue. Both in Guinness World Record Book. Don't care if Zero fans are there. Joe ain't beating Mahomes in Arrowhead AFC Title game. Refs went flag crazy last time in Cincy. Not this time.

I have been to both and you are full of crap. LSU vs Arrowhead is no contest. LSU has almost 30,000 more fans. It is a college atmosphere at LSU which means there is a band at LSU and not one at Arrowhead. There are students at college games who are far more vocal than the vast majority of Arrowhead fans. In fact ghe only reason Arrowhead is being talked about is because of Joe Burrow’s comments about SEC stadiums. Grow up.

Speaking of noise, I think that 60k cowbells at Miss State all at once would be more of an irritant than a slow crescendo of yelling as the play clock runs down. The latter would be easier to tune out. Going to a silent count will not do any favors for the Bengals OL, which needs all the help it can get.

Been to a bunch of games at both Tiger Stadium and Arrowhead. For short periods Arrowhead seems as loud as Tiger stadium to me. For big games at least, Tiger stadium seems to have more sustained noise. But regarding the number of people, the loudest game I think I’ve experienced in Tiger stadium was vs USC in 1979, where the capacity was ~78,000. Of course, this is subjective.

Loudest, the quietest I ever heard in Tiger Stadium was the 3-OT game against Arkansas when LSU was ranked #1. Loud as a sonic boom then suddenly as quiet as a church. Very somber.

Taf , no sir that is not subjective it is a fact. I was at 50 yard line lower tier for the 79 USC Vs LSU game! Loudest freaking game ever in Tiger Stadium and I have been to many many big games there!!! You are absolutely right! And and Tiger fan who went to that game will tell you the same thing. Magical!!!
