LSU (6-0, 2-0 SEC) is currently No. 2 in the AP Top 25, No. 4 in the Coaches Poll and in the hunt for a spot in the College Football Playoff.

The first playoff rankings will come out in three weeks on Tuesday, Nov. 5 but if we were still using the old BCS Rankings, the Tigers would be No. 3 behind Alabama and Ohio State.

I honestly miss the BCS era. Not its flaws necessarily but everything else about it.

I think they should have used the bcs calculations for selecting the playoff teams. Going 100% human selection with the committee does not make sense to me.

Agreed Bob there should've been a hybrid system

How is bama #1?

Caution: remain objective at all times. Imagine for a minute you're a Penn State fan. Now restate your response.

#1 because 2/3 of ranking is based on AP and Coaches/US Today poll.

Wondering the same thing. Who have they played? Ole Miss and South Carolina?

Clemson's combineed opponents' record is 15-21. Why are they even in the top 5?

Two-thirds of BCS formula comprised of human polls: AP and Coaches. The final third was a combination of 6 computer polls and SOS component. Too much reliance on human polls.

Depends on WHICH BCS poll they are using, the original depended more on the computers, and then they later tweaked it to be more reliant on the human polls.

AP removed itself from BCS after AP’s darling (USC) got bumped out of the title game in favor of OU against LSU.

This must be the post 2003 BCS era formula after all of the West coast media bitching where more weight was shifted to the polls rather than the computers' formula which emphasized strength of schedule.

BCS was good to LSU, but it needed to be changed.

I like the BCS system a lot. Wish they used the BCS to determine a 6 team playoff

When we beat Auburn, we should be 1# with that method.

Human polls love them. Bama and OSU especially.

I am incorrect. Computer polls love the three teams mentioned. Wow.

The BCS system LOVED Ohio State. I see nothing has changed.

The BCS system was very kind to us as well. Have you forgotten that we played for a title with TWO regular season losses?

That top 6 would be perfect and would continue to get better as the season plays out

Alabama would be tanked that high because of who they beat?

BCS was a better system. I watched more college football back when strength of schedule had me caring about the outcome of Boise St v Hawaii. Also, playoffs don’t necessarily produce a true champion. 2007 Patriots anyone?

Flawed ranking. Auburn loses to Florida but ranked higher.. Georgia beats Notre Dame but ranked lower.

Strength of Schedule was a big factor in the BCS.

The rankings are not based on one game but on a whole season. For comparison, how many times do NFL teams split games in a season? Also, both the Georgia victory and the UF victory you mention were at home.

Should South Carolina be ranked higher than Georgia? What about higher than Notre Dame since they beat Georgia but Notre Dame didn't?
