During the SEC Coaches Teleconference on Wednesday morning, interim head coach Frank Wilson was asked if Garrett Nussmeier is still the starting quarterback.

Wilson responded by saying that Nussmeier is still QB1, but also talked about backup Michael Van Buren.
quote:

"I think Garrett is our starting quarterback," Wilson responded. "I think he gives us a great opportunity to be efficient with our offense."

"I think Michael has a skill set that adds value to our football team that will be called upon, that could help us win the game."

"At the end of the day, we're going to do what it takes to win the game. But Garrett is our starting quarterback. Michael Van Buren does have a skill set that could add value and help this football team win. And our intentions are to position ourselves to be able to do those things, to give us every opportunity to win a football game."
Wilson was later asked what the coaching staff could do or change to get Nussmeier playing at a higher level.
quote:

"We need to cater to his strength, do the things that he does well, and not ask him to do more than he needs to do.

"He's a very talented quarterback. He didn't coincidentally get to the status that he is with an inability. And so now it's urgent upon us to be able to identify that and game plan around that so that he's able to have success that ultimately affects the outcome of the game for our football team."

It's hard to give an accurate assessment of Nuss because the OL is horrible and that's the lifeline of a QB. Bad OL equals bad consequences. I think he has the tools to be an exceptional QB, but that takes and solid OL and that part is invisible at LSU right now!

Refreshing to hear the statement on how important it is to ask Nuss to do things he is good at.

Really makes you think that Frank knows something that Sloan was doing wrong with the game plans.

They did not know how bad the line was, this has to come out during practice

LSU is horrible in the red zone. Put in the back up when we get down there and let's see if he can do better. Nuss seems to be unable to guide the team when it comes time to score points (other than field goals)

Alabama will be 100% no pressure. Roll the dice all night long. Dial it up. Ears pinned back.

Time to play clock ball, run the damn ball.

It's the OL stupid! It ain't Nuss. He's a good QB and is gonna prove it one day in the NFL. But the time available in the pocket is the deciding factor. Fractions of a second matter...and he just ain't gettin em.

"He's also kind of a potato-head." - Frank Wilson, probably

Bama is going to destroy Nuss with the OL we have. We need a QB that runs a 4.4 40. Or close to it.

Unfortunately mobile the only way to counteract this bad OL unless Davis can fix it in 2 weeks

Start MVB. Sit Nuss. Terrible decision maker and scared to throw in the middle

Maybe a few pass catchers will be seen running across the middle of the field as the season progresses.

Play MVB if he moves the ball nowhere first drive

I still think if we can establish a decent run game and use the PA game Nuss can be very productive, but sitting back in the shotgun every snap with no run game can't work. In the RZ have a package for MVB

Let the kid play. Get MVB some time back there, too. But In a lost season, Nuss deserves to play it out. He was a good soldier while he was waiting for his turn.

Let him wait on the bench inside the 20

Not a good plan Frank.

What have they seen on film that points in the direction Nuss should start? Weird.

At this point, make bama gameplan for everything.

You expecting Frank to tell you (and Alabama) what he's planning to do? Loose lips sink ships

If he plays with QB who has been the main reason LSU offense sucks then he is just like BK.

A qb that throws for 4000 yards doesn't suck. People that keep saying he does seem to forget that fact. And they also forget LSU is starting 2 freshman on the line. Geez, stop and think people.
