Jaren Handy's commitment to LSU lasted just 12 days.

On Thursday, the four-star defensive lineman from New Augusta, MS announced that he has de-committed from LSU and has reopened his recruitment but that the Tigers remain one of his top schools.

Handy originally gave his verbal pledge to the coaching staff during his visit to campus on March 3rd for the Tigers annual Junior Day recruiting event.

Handy, a 6-5, 260-pound prospect from Perry Central HS is rated the No. 7 strong-side defensive lineman in the country and the No. 6 overall player from the state of Mississippi for the class of 2019, according to 247 Sports.

Verbal commitments are reliable about 5% of the time. Don't trust these kids until they sign with the school of their choice.

I'd "respect your decision" more if you didn't write that bullshite! How about YOU respect YOUR OWN DECISION once it's made and honor it. This is why I don't get excited until NSD once they have signed.

I don’t think the fan base understands how dire the coaching situation is. We completely botched this hire.

I’ll reserve my respect for the young men and women who understand what a commitment means.

I'll never understand why people are so surprised about a commitment or when they decommit? I simply say welcome aboard and then good luck. I mean it happens every year and especially when it's a surprise type of commit like this was. He could come back or not but LSU is still in good shape either way. Why people get so worked up over it is beyond me. I mean I let myself get excited bc it's cool but I also know these are kids man. They are kids!!

Good grief, how is this a story? He’s looking for his 15 minutes. “Respect my decision”......it would be much easier to respect you if you stuck by your commitment

Um...... BOOM!!????? The real tragedy is that people still think these kids nowadays are worth their word. They grow up in a whole society of broken promises. And we expect them to keep their word after a whim catches their attention for a split second.... that’s kinda stupid of us. When it comes to recruiting, there isn’t one kid I fully expect to keep their word and honor themselves and their commitment. If you do, you’re a fool. I love these kids that ultimately choose to play for LSU because I love LSU. But 3/4 of them don’t have any substance or honor in their characters.

The Bag Man must be back in Mississippi after he disappeared due to the Ole Miss situation. I wonder what he promised this kids family a Dodge Charger is the going rate now.

It’s a bad sign when they commit to you first. It’s better to be about third in recruiting.
