ESPN's Bill Connelly recently ranked all 64 teams in College Football Playoff History and pegged LSU's 2019 National Championship squad at No. 2.

Ahead of the Tigers at No. 1 was Alabama's 2020 team, which LSU fans will likely have an opinion on.
quote:

2. 2019 LSU (15-0)
CFP result: Beat Oklahoma 63-28; beat Clemson 42-25

Plenty of coaches have attempted to modernize their offenses in the hopes of giving their programs a shot in the arm. Ed Orgeron's 2019 team set the bar impossibly high for any future modernizers. With help from an elite skill corps, Joe Burrow threw for 5,671 yards and 60 touchdowns (!!!). Once LSU's defense got healthy late in the year, the Tigers were untouchable, beating Alabama in Tuscaloosa, then winning their last six games by an average of 30 points.

1. 2020 Alabama (13-0)
CFP result: Beat Notre Dame 31-14; beat Ohio State 52-24

The Crimson Tide had the Nos. 1, 3 and 5 finishers in the Heisman voting. They played one game decided by fewer than 14 points. They bested an SEC-only schedule by an average of 30.2 points per game. Their defense struggled early but allowed only 15 points per game after mid-October. This was the best Nick Saban team ever and quite possibly the best of the 21st century.

Best team ... from the best coach ... with the best dynasty of the 21st century (at the very least)? Sounds like the best team of the CFP era.

So, they won fewer games and beat teams with decimated rosters in front of near empty stadiums.

2019 Bama would have beaten 2020 Bama 8 games out of 10.

I don't have to read anything else. As soon as one of these phony rankings come out and DON'T have 2019 LSU at the top, it loses all credibility. There is not an argument to be made. 2020 Alabama did not have LSU's gauntlet of a schedule, which LSU thoroughly dominated.

LSU beat a top five Georgia team, which had maybe the best defense in the country, by 5 touchdowns, beat Oklahoma by 5 touchdowns in a game where we basically stopped trying to score after halftime (but still scored two more times), then beat a team with an almost 30 game winning streak 42-25, with a dropped touchdown pass and a kneel down inside the five yard line, or it could have been much worse.

But Alabama was better because it's Alabama? Utter nonsense.

No way a covid year team should be ranked above a team that steam rolled the majority of the teams they played so much so that the QB didn't play the entire game.

2020 is the most irrelevant year of football ever, but Bama's dominance that year is not mistaken. They were definitely the most prepared team for that situation
