Ed Orgeron met with the media on Monday and revealed that quarterback Danny Etling was hurt before the game last Saturday vs. Arkansas.

Orgeron said that trainer Jack Marucci told him before the game that "it was going to be tough" for Etling.

The senior QB went 5-8 for 176-yards and threw one touchdown during the first half vs. the Razorbacks.

Orgeron decided to stick with the Etling for the rest of the game saying they "believe in Danny and the positives he brings to the football game."

Etling finished the game 11-16, with 217 yards, and two touchdowns.
quote:

Question: Hitting the deep ball on Saturday against Arkansas, two big ones to DJ, is that the most confidence you've seen Danny play this season?

COACH ORGERON: Yes. And I'm going to say, Danny before the game was hurt. And Jack came to me and said this is going to be tough today. And I said we believe in Danny and he's going to get it done.

The first half, it wasn't pretty. It was 7 to 7, went in at halftime, and I looked at Danny and said we believe in you. You're going to get it done. Let's go. He had a tremendous game.

We believe in Danny and the positives he brings to the football team. He's one of the toughest guys. He's a silent leader. He wants to win. And those deep balls to DJ, tremendous protection, tremendous throw by him, but tremendous route by DJ. DJ's footwork on both of those routes were outstanding.

Etling is not the greatest quarterback to wear the purple and gold. And he probably cost us a game or two over the years. But lets be honest he is a great example of LSU football and shows up to play. Even if he isnt the most talented QB out there. Winning is what its all about, but at the same time its nice not have someone like Jameis Winston making a fool of himself and the university.

Why on God's green earth were they calling designed runs with Etling if they knew he was hurt? I didn't even know he was hurt and I couldn't believe he was running the ball when we were up.

Exactly. He was running QB keepers up by 20. I want to see Brennan play more, but not because Danny is hurt.

Didn’t know he was hurting. But it doesn’t matter. I’ll say it again: Etling is one tough dude! He’s a competitor and a winner! I checked the SEC stats for the season and Etling is actually the 6th rated qb in the conference. Ahead of Hurts and From, among others! As far as the running plays, why not? If he can play, he can run! He’s a senior. He won’t be playing on Sunday’s. Let him ball out these last few games and geaux out on a winning note! He deserves it!

Did bama do this or did he trip going to class? need more from modern day journalists walking around with a phone in each ear.

Why do LSU coaches always get hung up on shitty QBs? Les was guilty of it also.

Makes no sense to have a hurt QB running designed QB runs. Myles Brennan should be getting some playing time as well especially up by 20 in the game. The QB management this season has been weird.

I sincerely hope Coach Offer in offers Etling a position at the end of the season if he wants it. Great kid and could likely make a great recruiter.

Orgeron. Damned auto correct.

I hope Danny’s alright and gets to finish out the year as a starter with some good performances. I think he’s done pretty good given his skill set. Hopefully next year Brennen or Narcisse will give us a qb with a strong arm with accuracy at every range.

"The senior QB went 5-8 for 176-yards and threw one touchdown during the first half vs. the Razorbacks." Do you ever proofread? That wasn't his 1st half stat line.

Yeah a lot of people placed his struggles last season on him being hurt and needing surgery.

If he was injured, why not put in someone else to help take some pressure off Danny? Not he whole game but a few series here and there.

He wasn't injured. He was hurt. Haven't you ever seen "The Program"?

Have you watched him play yet? Not even close to being ready. Weight room will be big for him in the offseason.
