Ed Orgeron Names Starting Running Back For 2018

LSU head coach Ed Orgeron joined ESPN's 104.5 FM’s "Off The Bench" show on Thursday and said that senior Nick Brossette will “start off” No. 1 in the Tigers running back group, followed by sophomore Clyde Edwards-Helaire, junior Lanard Fournette, and true freshman Tae Provens.

I'm rooting for Nick, hope he does well, a lot of guys in his shoes would've transferred. There's something to say about that, in my book. But if he's not the man for the job then I hope the man after him will be able to produce.

I don't understand why he felt compelled to name a starting running back in the first place - or any position for that matter. They haven't even played Spring ball yet. Anything can happen between now and then, and it doesn't set a good example for incoming freshmen who haven't even been given a chance yet. Amateurish.

Sounds so familiar. Yeah, folks were freaking out when all we had one year was a back-up named Jeremy Hill. He went out in 2013 and ran for 1400 yards, got kinda quiet on the message boards. Is Brossette gonna do that? Dont know.But getting down on the kid isnt gonna help.

Guys are acting like he is a walk on. He was the #19 running back in the country coming out of high school. He has played behind 2 LSU greats and has been coached by some of the best in the biz. Give the guy a chance.

Just haven't seen it at all. Not even on the free carries he's had. All I can think of is Alfred Blue after the injury and Kenny Hilliard as a senior. Not trying to be mean, but Brossette is mediocre.

I agree. Soon as Curry learns the playbook, he will be the starter. These, 'fans' have no idea what a good back looks like on the field, all they know is what so called experts tell them. Curry is a beast and will bring to the tigers the same mold of RB Emmitt Smith was.

Think people are sleeping on Brossette. Fans have been spoiled with top ten NFL draft type talent at the position. Fournette and Guice type backs don’t come along very often, and Brossette has had to wait sat behind both. Also throw in Darrell who is a pro prospect that lacks certain physical traits that would make him an elite back.
