Former Ohio State quarterback Dwayne Haskins was on Fox's "Ring Chronicles series" Monday and talked about the competition between him and Joe Burrow during their time in Columbus.

Haskins said that the battle was so heated that they "couldn’t stand each other." Per The Spun:
quote:

“I love Joe but during that battle, for almost two years, me and Joe couldn’t stand each other,” Haskins said on Monday’s Ring Chronicles series from FOX, per 247Sports. “Every day, whether it was morning workouts or when we had to do mat drills and it’d be me and him on the mat drill, it was gritty. Or it was practice and me and him are trying to get in front of each other to get a rep to throw to one of the starting receivers. It was always this heated competition but we knew we got the best out of each other. He made it hard for me and I made it hard for him and I didn’t let him take it away.”

Both Haskins and Burrow ended up having tremendous success in college. Haskins was a first-round pick in the 2019 NFL Draft and Burrow was the No. 1 overall pick in 2020.

“When he did leave we had conversations about where he wanted to go and he said he wanted to go to LSU,” Haskins said. “I said ‘do your thing. I believe in you.’ And we still talk to this day and I was very proud of him for what he did last year.”

Cool story, I actually thought Haskins was going to be a tiger during his recruiting.

Although I didn’t think it would be as great as it was, I knew we had a good one in Joe B..he barely gets beat out by Haskins ( who becomes 1st rd pick) for Ohio St Job and many many stated on there boards that Joe beat out Haskins and only team politics helped Haskins win

I can tell you there were no "team politics". People always say this when their guy doesn't win. Haskins was just better at the time than Burrow and that's it. The Burrow in 2018 and in 2019 look like two completely different QBs.

Burrow running the OSU offense in 2018 would have looked completely different that im running the LSU offense that year. He would have had chemistry with his WRs and been in a system he was comfortable with. I can't stand when people point to 2018 JB and act like there were circumstances outside his control that led to his average play. I fully believe that if 1) we hire Joe Brady in 2018 or 2) he wins the job at OSU that Burrow shows out just like he did in 2019. The only thing I think might have been different is that OSU doesn't have any Jamar's to just throw jump balls to whenever you see 1 on 1 coverage.

I agree with both kinda...I actually thought Joe in 18 was as good as we have had I awhile. Plus to show how smart he is and adaptable is it was 1st time since PeeWeeBall he would turn his back to Defense after snap. This will help in show as there will be more play action under center stuff

tOSU could have legitimately won back to back natties had CUM made the right call. Glad he didn’t.

JB9 was unreal obviously but just putting him at OSU last year doesn't automatically give them the NC. LSU had the perfect pieces for the run last season, Jefferson, Chase, CEH, Marshall etc. Without JB9 I seriously doubt the Tigers win it either BUT they wld have still been a pretty damn strong football team!!

That's cool. Maybe they can get together for a beer and compare Heisman trophies and Natty rings.

I can understand people not liking Urban Meyer, but I’m not sure there was a better QB evaluator in the modern era.

Mullen and Herman were responsible for most of those evaluations. Meyer didn't know who Burrow was. Meyer was big on Brantley, but he sucked.

From what I understand, Tom Herman has to convince Urban to offer him a scholly

That my friends is what competition brings out in people. Hard arse work paid off for both and mutual respect was gained in the process
