LSU head coach Brian Kelly spoke with reporters after practice on Tuesday and revealed that tight end Mac Markway decided he would no longer be a part of the team.

Kelly then went on to talk about the progress of young LSU tight ends Ka'Morreun Pimpton and Trey'Dez Green, who will play behind veteran Mason Taylor.

I do think this is a loss for us. Markway is the size to be that extra lineman and he can catch the football. I think he was probably going to play a lot based on how much he played last season. It does not seem he was getting left behind by the other tight ends.

He was getting left behind.

Probably more like he was gonna play but ONLY as a blocker & so he was likely never going to get many opportunities to show his pass catching ability (assuming he had some). So he hits the portal & looks to go somewhere that gives him those opportunities as a receiving TE rather than just a 6th OL.

Doesn’t like Slade as TE coach? Homesick? Girlfriend dumped him? Who knows? Seems like the guy was going to play. Not a stretch to say he ends up at Notre Dame.

Trey'Dez Green obviously has a way higher ceiling than Mac, so glad he'll get more chances now. Also, will keep him in the program bc he'll get PT instead of transfer

Markway had PT and still is transferring. Mark way was going to get more PT this year and is still transferring.

Can’t count on PT keeping players from transferring.

Already saw somewhere that he sas getting passed up by Pimpton. My guess is that they trust the OL so much that they'll figure out a way around big blocking TE sets when running goaling and the like.

Probably Notre Dame bound. He’s the exact type they like at TE.

Strange time to leave the team.

KP and Green are going to be nightmares for DBs and LBs in the red zone and goaline

Markway was a good blocking TE. He will be missed, but the talent with Pimpton and Green was just overwhelming for him. These players will have to see the field. Just to talented. Nightmare for DB's.

Seams like he knew he wouldn't get much reps . Does he think he can transfer and be eligible this year?
