During his post-practice press conference on Thursday, head coach Brian Kelly was asked about the message he shared with the team this week about focusing on Texas A&M and what it's going to take on Saturday.
quote:

"Oh yeah. I just spent ten minutes talking about it. You must have heard me. Was I too loud?" Kell said jokingly.

"You have to go to Texas A&M. You have to go into that stadium. And you have to go take something from them. They are not going to give it to you. You have to take it."

"And that requires an incredible desire and want-to. You don't want to sit around all next week when you don't have a game and have any regrets."

"You have to lay it on the table. Like that great quote, 'Come back bloody or come back on your shield.' You have to lay it on the line. This is one of those games."
Kelly might have messed up the old Spartan quote a little bit, but either way, kickoff on Saturday night can't get here soon enough.

He said it soft voiced and passionately, while handing out cotton candy and friendships. BK sucks and has to go.

How did that work out for you, Coach?!?

This worked well. Turns out passion doesn’t fricking matter when you can’t run the call and make constant idiot undisciplined mistakes

I was very happy with the Kelly hire when we first got the word. Yes we’ve had some opening game issues but he’s had to rebuild a roster each year and build talent and depth. No arguing we get better with the year each year. And then I hear his locker room speeches and and I’m thrilled as shite we got this guy. The future of lsu football is definitely trending upward! Now let’s be calm in taking this game how we want to. GEAUX TIGERS!

Did he also tell them "Don't let 'em touch your wiener."?

Whatever inspirational speeches he used the past three season openers hopefully found the shredder. The team is playing better every week and trust his motivational techniques align with the 6-0 Tigers and do not revert back to the 0-1 Tigers.

Les speak, but more polished: ""And that requires an incredible desire and want-to. You don't want to sit around all next week when you don't have a game and have any regrets."

“Like that great quote, 'Come back bloody or come back on your shield.” Geez BK, get it right, Spartan mothers said to
warriors as they went off to battle, “Come back with your shield or on it”

Some folks forget the significance, too. When hoplites broke and ran, they stripped off the panoply. The helmet, breastplate, etc., and dropped the shield because it was too heavy to run away wearing/carrying. They didn't have to bring back any of that stuff, including the weapons, EXCEPT the shield. Why? The other stuff was for individual protection/use. The shield was the protection for the man to the left and, by extension, the entire formation.

Thinking the players are motivated by emotion, leadership and desire and not by parsing Greek battle stories for correctness.

Yeah - but the Spartan Shield story is not to be messed up - get it straight or don't use it.

or at least don't imply you are quoting it.
