Brian Kelly Gives Honest Take On Replay Challenges: 'We're Wasting Our Time'

The LSU-Ole Miss matchup last Saturday was 4 hours and 16 minutes long and had six stoppages due to official reviews.

On Thursday, Brian Kelly was asked about the current replay challenge process in College Football and talked about how he would change it.

"I've gone on record, and I'll go on the record again. I believe that your should replay scoring plays and changes of possession."

And I think the coaches should have a challenge. They keep the challenge if it's successful. They lose the challenge if it's not. I think that streamlines the game. I think it then goes to critical decisions in the game. Other than that, I think we're wasting time with all of the replays.

Maybe I am mis remembering but I think it is mostly change of possession and Scoring pays. The other one that I can remeber is the Aaron Anderson catch that was a drop but IDK how you can say that getting that call correct wasn't crucial in that game. If it were to happen against LSU, I would want them to look at it and get it right. I do think they need a replay official that can give us an answer much quicker though. It shoudn't take 10 minutes.

I like what he’s saying but who determines what other plays are critical? Why isn’t a catch/non catch just as critical in the first quarter as it is w less than 2 minutes in the game?

He just said auto review scoring and change of possession. If a coach wants to challenge a catch in the 1st quarter, they can. If they’re right, they keep their challenge. If wrong, they’re done for the day.

The system in CFB is stupid. They take so long because the Ref has to go down to a stupid little monitor and watch the replays. This should all be done in the booth by replay officials. Also, now that replay is backing up the refs they are making calls that err on the side of play continuation in case they missed something.
BK can say what he wants but without replay he doesnt get that last second FG vs Ole Miss as a result of replay giving LSU the ball on a fumble that none of the refs saw...

Misleading title- he says he thinks the REPLAYS are wasting time , but ALSO says he thinks coaches SHOULD have CHALLENGES… two different things
