Bruce Thorson-USA TODAY Sports
College Baseball insider Kendall Rodgers of D1Baseball is reporting that retired Oregon State baseball coach Pat Casey "has emerged" as the leading candidate for the LSU Baseball job.

The 62-year old coached at Oregon State from 1995–2018 and won three National Championship with the Beavers in 2006, 2007, and 2018. In 2010, Casey was named Coach of the Decade for the years 2000–2009 by Baseball America.

Since retiring in 2018, Casey has been in an administrative role in Oregon State’s athletic department as a special assistant to athletic director Scott Barnes.

This 63 year old can actually develop talent though.

Do you care more about the age of the coach or the success of the program?

But for how long can he develop talent tho as a 63 year old. His team was ousted quick this year and not into the supers

What's wrong with a 63 year old baseball coach? He's the Nick Saban of baseball. Don't say you wouldn't take 69 year old Saban in a heartbeat.

It won’t matter which guy is hired, our fans will bitch and moan about it.

This is a hire to establish a program and culture change for the next coach. This is a mentor hire. I feel like Woodward is thinking ahead to the next coach. The decision is deeper than what's on the surface.

Using a baseball mentality, is this hire meant to get a few innings until the next hire who is a potential stud. No matter what, most won’t be happy but they weren’t happy before either.

@The Korean.... Agreed. Get a few innings in maybe with a plan to establish something. I can't think of a perfect hire atm. We have ARnold and Thompson from Cali, and Alex Brady out of Washington. And I think we have 1 kid from West Canada/West Coast. I think Millas? That's 4 west coast kids. Maybe this has to do with more recruiting that way? I am just thinking out loud. Florida is a big hotspot for out of state and they were asking O'Sullivan about LSU. This could be a recruiting hire and wanting to bring in his system? Like you said, most wont be happy.

Dude, you can hire a Paterno/Sandusky mini situation.

He must’ve drove to Eugene and got excited about the potential of those LSU freshman he saw.

What does “emerging as leading candidate” really mean? Sounds like a bunch of horseshite.

Is there some child molester LSU is trying to recruit?

I live in Greenville, NC and I can assure you that Cliff Godwin is the best coach in America right now! I can't believe this is even being considered. Cliff is only 43 and has been very successful everywhere he has been including his stint with LSU.

Is his vision still good enough to call for a review when a baseball hits close to the yellow line down the left field pole?

The way they block certain things that are posted about coaching hires bc there’s nothing to back it up and then you see this front page, it gives me a bad feeling it must be true and possibly a done deal. Great coach, but too old and there’s always that little kid diddling incident by his pitcher that everyone knows about that I’m sure will come up with the other crap currently taking place in our sports programs.

What the hell ? I applaud his career and accomplishments. But this is not what LSU should do. I would go after the TN coach. We need a younger more innovative coach. He fits well for what LSU really needs. GEAUX TIGERS!!

Do you think it’s funny to call someone a pedophile with no evidence?

He recruited a convicted child molester to pitch for him. That’s cool with you?

Did I say it was? I didn’t imply Casey was a pedophile with no evidence.
