On Monday, LSU pitcher Paul Gervase sent a promising tweet out suggesting that he was returning to the team for another year after he did not hear his name called early in the MLB Draft.

Things changed quickly on Tuesday after Gervase was drafted by the New York Mets in the 12th round. Gervase has since deleted his tweet and sent a farewell message to LSU fans.

Good luck to him but it's a "head scratcher", for sure.

Big mistake. He probably left millions of future dollars on the table with this brilliant decision.

Poor decision making all around at the end for Gervase

Hate that Paul is passing up a chance to play for the Tigers in a year that most think they will be a force in CBB. He would have, most certainly, improved his draft stock with a good showing? Now he may be left saying, "I could've been a contender"!?! I think this is a big mistake but Good luck!

Double edged sword, he could also frick up his arm and never pitch another inning….

He may improve his draft stock but he definitely losing negotiating leverage if he returns.

On radio today, it was reported that players in these rounds could earn up to 150k.

They can earn even more, depending on position- pitchers are that position.

That’s not a lot after taxes. If he stayed and had a solid year you could definitely double or triple that total.

150k will get you a room the size of a toaster in east Harlem.

Extremely difficult decision for 17 to 19 year-old to make. I don’t think either decision is right or wrong, only hindsight will tell if it was likely the best decision. Good luck to this young man.

Can get big bucks in the late rounds if you have amateur eligibility left and the pro club really wants you.

Considering there’s 40+ rounds in the mob draft that’s not a bad slot. If you get drafted in the top 20 rounds the club thinks you have a shot at the majors. Plus guys get way more money whenever they have years left to come back to school due to the leverage they have of coming back and playing more college ball. Probably smart on his part.

How do I know that you know nothing about a 12th round picks status in pro ball.
