Fox Sports College Football analyst Joel Klatt had some heavy criticism directed towards Alabama and their easy schedule.

First, here is look at the Crimson Tide's schedule for 2018:

vs. Louisville
vs. Arkansas State
at Ole Miss
vs. Texas A&M
vs. Louisiana-Lafayette
at Arkansas
vs. Missouri
at Tennessee
at #25 LSU
vs. #18 Miss St
vs. The Citadel
vs. #9 Auburn

And here's what Klat had to say:
quote:

“This is by far the easiest schedule of any of the top teams in the country,” Klatt said. “If Alabama is not the SEC champion and not in the Playoff, I’m going to be shocked.

"They're probably not going to play a ranked team, at least inside the top 15 until maybe the Iron Bowl. That's how bad their schedule is this year. It's one of the worst in the country and they should steamroll it.

"Unfortunately, all the pundits will not talk about that and they will give Alabama a nice free pass on their schedule but rest assured that one of the worst schedules in the country."

SEC schedules in the Top 10 SOS at seasons end. One team is in the Top 10 all the way back through 2009: 2017 - AU #1 - BAMA #6 - UGA #7 2016 - BAMA #1 - LSU #4 - AU #7 2015 - BAMA #1 - UM #3 - LSU #5 - Ark #7 - MSU #9 2014 - AU #1 - BAMA #2 - UM #3 - Ark #4 - LSU #7 - MSU #10 2013 - AU #3 - BAMA #7 - UGA #10 2012 - BAMA #1 - UF #5 - MO #10 2011 - LSU #1 - BAMA #3 - Ark #8 - aTm #9 2010 - AU #1 - Ark #3 - BAMA #6 - USC #7 - LSU #8 2009 - BAMA #1 - UF #4 - LSU #6 - Ark #8 ------------------------ Season openers and other P5 non-conf in the regular season under CNS. I'd like to see how most other teams stack up against this list, especially the openers: 2007 - FSU (#19) 2008 - Clemson (#9) - season opener 2009 - Va Tech (#7) - season opener 2010 - Penn State 2011 - Penn State 2012 - Michigan (#8) - season opener 2013 - Va Tech - season opener 2014 - West Va - season opener 2015 - Wisconsin (#18) - season opener 2016 - Southern Cal (#20) - season opener 2017 - FSU (#3) - season opener 2018 - Louisville - season opener

At worst even Ogeron would go 10-2 with that schedule.

So it's Bama fault the rest of the SEC sucks? Maybe l7u, Arky, A&M the whole East except Ga. need to quit being pussies like their fans.

Alabama plays the toughest schedule of the top teams, outside Auburn who has a brutal schedule. All this tool is doing is looking at Alabama's schedule and saying it's easy...for Alabama. What people like this never do is compare it to the full schedule of other teams. LINK / SoS ranks: Alabama #49 Clemson #57 Ohio St #54 Georgia #59 Oklahoma #62 That's the top5 from last year. Here's a few others: Auburn #2 Washington #36 Michigan St #48 And no surprise here, the top4 SoS all play Alabama, 3 of them play Alabama and Georgia. The other is A&M who plays Clemson instead of Georgia. So if you doubt the accuracy of the rankings, it recognizes when teams play true strength: #1 Texas A&M #2 Auburn #3 LSU #4 Tennessee

Who is Joel Klatt, other than obviously being a football illiterate idiot, and why should anyone care what he has to say about anything? I mean it's not like Bama crafted their scheduled yesterday. They booked Louisville a couple of years ago when Louisville was pretty good ... and they still should be. Ole Miss looked like a world beater not that long ago. Is it Bama's fault that they're not now? A&M and LSU are early Conference games as well and Tennessee is a rivalry game, a traditional matchup. None of those games are Bama's fault. Clemson, FSU, etc., they play easier schedules year-in and year-out and does this idiot Klatt complain about their schedules?

Dude you are a sister fricking idiot! They pretend Tennessee is a rivalry so they don't have to play any tougher teams in the East. They also knew Arkansas State, ULL, and The Citadel were going to suck arse years ago! fricking Gump!

DaddySims: Yes, Tennessee has been bad lately, but that's a legit rivalry that goes back many decades. And don't forget, for a long stretch, Tenn was VERY good. Can't really blame Bama for Tenn being bad the last 10 years. Besides, Bama has played a top-level OOC game every year for the last 10+ years. True, Louisville this year isn't at that level, but Bama doesn't duck good teams. And they play in the SEC West.

It is amuses me so much to hear people talk about Tennessee like this. I hope Auburn is next to be seen this way.

This is the normal schedule for them for the last 10 years or more.

The only easy outs I see on this schedule are The Citadel, Arky State, Louisiana, and Mizzou. Maybe Louisville is in that box, too, but when this game was scheduled they expected Lamar Jackson to still be playing there. It's not Bama's fault he left a year early.

and they'll still make the playoff with a loss

Wow, it is pretty easy looking and the few tough games are home.

Imagine that fox calling out a conference that is in contract with ESPN.. bet they won’t talk about Texas

Bet he is on the UCF "Natty" bandwagon despite their schedule last year...anything step up with the Bama hate.

Has he not looked at UGA's schedule?
user avatar
HTDawg68 months
UGA has not played an easy schedule every year for the past decade the way Bama has. We had a tough schedule last year. UGA is also not given the benefit of the doubt or a pass like Bama gets.

Can't help it that the rest of the sec dropped off. Folks around the country, particularly other conferences, Will find whatever they can to criticize. Nobody that plays in the sec has an "easy path".

He is correct, you know.

This is such a joke. I think last year the SEC pretty much proved it's the best conference in the country by a longshot by having two teams in the championship game. If you exist in the SEC, you're not playing an easy schedule. Period. Every team that has to play Alabama is considered to have a really tough schedule. It's not Alabama's fault that they're the best.

It sounds like no one in these comments is disputing that the schedule is easy. So we all must agree that anything short of steamrolling this schedule would be considered a disappointment.

Masterag68 months
I hate Bama as much as anybody, but this is absurd. Can’t choose your conference opponents, and the ooc is always a good power 5 plus 2 cupcakes. When the schedule was made Louisville was likely a top 25 team in the country as they have been for most of the last several years.
user avatar
TNTigerman68 months
Wrong. The Birmingham-based SEC makes sure they Tennessee, and either Mizzou or Vanderbilt each year. Go back and check it.
user avatar
bogeypro68 months
Last I checked, Tennesse, Mizzou, and Vandy were SEC games. Still better than most ACC, Big 10 games...

TNTigerman: you clearly don't understand how the SEC schedules out-of-division games.
