Still gives me chills when the crowd is heard over the engines. It doesn’t get better than this when it comes to NASCAR.

I forget how fun drafting tracks were when you actually had room to move around and make runs.

Greatest sporting event I got to attend live

And yes the crowd sounded like a Saints game during the Brees era in the Dome and you will never hear that at a Nascar race again........just because of the dynamics of 40 different driver fans and being outside in the wide open

That's back when you could make things happen, now it's just a 2x2 single file borefest

That was the baddest Budweiser 8 hat also, I wish someone would recreate that hat or the one from 02 or 03

I remember it and it was a really cool scene.

Of course sportstalk shows that week were full of callers saying it was rigged.

I was there as well. I could feel something otherworldly in the air that night, it is very hard to explain.

I remember telling my girlfriend in the middle of the race “you know who’s gonna win tonight, don’t you?” Seeing Junior making the pass for the lead is in my top 5 sport things I’ve seen live for sure.

Awesome shite. That car was so elite in that era.

I think it was the same car he finished 2nd with in the 500 and I know for sure it also won 3 consecutive Talladega races.

Waltrip said in an interview later that he could have passed Jr but let him win it due to the circumstances.

But who knows

Not a nascar fan but I love the history and dale jr podcast.
MW penned this and it’s a great read on his friendship with dale.

Great win but it ended under caution.
