We’ve totally jumped the shark with instant replay, there was a play in the UCLA-Wisconsin game that was the perfect encapsulation:

4th down, Wisconsin runs up the middle for what is called a first down on the field. Replay review is invoked to see if the runner made the line to gain.

In the replay video, you can clearly see that the runner being dragged down by his facemask, short of the first down.

Replay allowed the spot to be changed, and effectively ignored the penalty that caused it.

This was called an illegal “blindside” block.

I'm watching this game... it's another example of just terrible officiating running the game.

Obviously I'm biased with the outcome I want on a play, but Wisconsin rushes for a critical 4th down attempt and the ruling on the field is first down.

Upon review, the ball carrier was down juuuuust short of the line to gain.... while being dragged down by his facemask. Replay can overturn the first down, but has to ignore why he was short. Unreal.

HS wrestling is pretty popular in the midwest but I think the lack of money to be made post-HS puts a cap on how big it can be nationally. The Olympics are cool but if you are a top athlete why would you focus on wrestling when you can potentially make millions in other sports? I recall that a few years ago there was an attempt to start a professional freestyle wrestling league but I think it fizzled out pretty quick.
