It’s basically a penalty for blocking too well. If you de cleat a guy in today’s game it’s a penalty whether he sees it coming or not

Most likely targeting or launching above the neck. They have made it an illegal play

Nothing about that is a blindside block which is what OP was talking about but that is BS if they called a penalty for it

They called a “crack back” block on bama against tenn. No targeting or launching. A bama wr smoked a tenn defender and it was a penalty because the defender didn’t see it coming.

I get that it’s if the defender doesn’t see it, but it’s gotten to the point to where even if they see it coming if they get lit up it’s a penalty. That is stupid to me.

that’s exactly what I’m talking about. What they call a “blindside” block really isn’t. It’s anytime a guy gets smoked they call it that

It used to be part of outside running plays that a WR would come in and lay out a LB who was dealing with the trash of the box. This was called a crack. They have made this a penalty.

You can still use a WR to block on an outside run but he has to be "attached" to the line.

The video the OP called is crazy for that to be blindsided.

That’s the point. They flagged this play and called the Wisconsin receiver for a an illegal blindside block. This game is a farce at this point.

OP is saying any big hit is getting flagged now regardless of it was technically illegal or not.

I'm trying to remember what game but I saw one last week where an o-lineman was called for it for pancaking a d-lineman who was trying to get around the edge while they still had the pocket formed.

okay smart arse. Anytime a player makes a clean block outside of the Offensive line, it tends to be called. A receiver making a great block on the perimeter where they light up a DB or a special teams guy makes a big block it gets flagged
