We don’t use it to fix penalty and clock issues

We still can’t figure out what a catch is

We do use it to determine if a ball is intended go to forward or backwards

Absolute crazy

We’ve totally jumped the shark with instant replay, there was a play in the UCLA-Wisconsin game that was the perfect encapsulation:

4th down, Wisconsin runs up the middle for what is called a first down on the field. Replay review is invoked to see if the runner made the line to gain.

In the replay video, you can clearly see that the runner being dragged down by his facemask, short of the first down.

Replay allowed the spot to be changed, and effectively ignored the penalty that caused it.

Do we really want every play reviewed to be overturned because they see a penalty that was missed? If so, every play reviewed would just result in a holding call.

I'm on the record for hating instant replay since Day 1.
