Louisiana is not going to go through with the treats to shut down LSU or LSU football.
This is all fear mongering 101 by John Bell Edwards to get his tax increases passed. There is no politician in Louisiana that will commit political suicide by shutting down LSU or LSU football.
This is John Bell's calculated way of getting back at those who did not elect is proposed leadership in the legislature. He is trying to take control of the special sessions of the legislature to ensure his tax increase agenda is passed.
Wake up Louisiana you have just elected a politician who promised you one thing on the campaign trail while trying to get elected but who is now hell bent on doing something totally different now that he is safely in office for four years.
No amount of BS you spill is going to pay teachers at LSU. Do you think they are going to work for your prayers?
No one is "shutting down" LSU out of choice, the current system and funding just brings in less money that we pay out in salaries, etc. The only way to fix it is if somehow we raise oil prices (GOODLUCK) all of a sudden turn the economy around in a few months (JINDALS BEEN TRYING 8 YEARS!) or raise tax revenues to take in more money at these new lower rate of returns.
With your kind of logic, I imagine soon you will be blaming the professors for not teaching for free so that LSU football can continue...

Fact: The state only has enough money coming in earmarked to fund education to cover current operating costs (payroll at public schools) through April 30th - June 30th timeframe.
The reason this window is large is that even though payroll is relatively easy to figure out, state tax revenue fluctuates with the free market pricing and economic activity (how well businesses are doing, oil prices, etc).
It's easy enough for the High Education Commissioner to look at the numbers and say at current estimates we will effectively run out of money after April 30th, or soon after.
How is this a "scare" tactic? It's true...if you knew where to look up the budget figures you could do the math yourself. Telling the people the truth is not a scare tactic...it's scary all by itself. But it's real, VERY real.
Since the economy and oil prices are so low and there is no reserves to fall back on...more revenue is needed. You can't just cut your way to a solution because the layoffs necessary to self sustain on the money coming in would mean effectively everyone would lose one or more teachers or classes giving them incompletes. The only option is MORE REVENUE.

To all of you who think amending the Constitution is a solution, how is that going to provide funding where there is none? All that does is change the rules to allow cuts to this or that sector (health care and education are the only areas currently open to cuts)...
that amendment does nothing to raise revenues or provide money to pay teachers. Our pockets are empty, what's coming earmarked to pay teachers less than that is going out. If it is a problem now, it's still going to be a problem in 2016 at these oil prices.
Teachers and administrators are not going to keep going to school and be paid for in your prayers, now are they??? :violin:

if this situation wasn't so depressing, i'd be relishing in the ability to come back here relatively soon (April 30th) and see the looks on all your faces when your Republican representatives either agree to raise taxes or let the pride of your existance (LSU football) waste away because of 8 years of Republican policies...
If you think JBE is bluffing, there is no way he could be. Payroll for a major university is a pretty easy thing to predict. He knows what the state spends monthly each year. He also knows what's left in funding to put towards funding LSU, and how much money is coming in per month in taxes. It's easy algebra.
Don't be so daft...

I heard that Rich Rod was upset with WVU because when he signed his last contract extension, after the whole Bama debacle, he had asked for improvements to the athletic facilities and WVU has shown no sign of making good on their promise yet.
I don't think he'd really be interested in the Michigan job, but perhaps he is just doing it to put pressure on his alma mater to start spending the cash!!!

my mistake...i got burned...BUT HE WAS WRONG ON THE FIRST COUNT STILL!...but yeah...im charred.
WWL has some seriously crappy reporting.
The commentator guy they had on around 5:30 PM talking about the rumors was an absolute idiot.
Not only did he start by saying Les was the OBVIOUS choice because Michigan hadn't interviewed anyone (a lie, both coordinators have interviewed, even if it is just a courtesy interview) but then he went on to say that Pelini was the obvious choice at Nebraska because their head coaching search stopped with him (a lie, Jim Grobe interviewed two days ago for that job...and he actually HAS HC experience beyond a weeks worth)
Also, the guy went on to say that the top candidates were Bo and Gill and that perhaps there was a "package" deal where Bo is the new HC and Gill would come in to be the Offensive Coordinator !!!
SO A NFL HEAD COACH IS GOING TO LEAVE AN NFL TEAM TO GO AND BE THE OFFENSIVE COORDINATOR UNDER A COACH WHO HAS NEVER BEEN A HEAD COACH FOR LONGER THAN A WEEK????
Plus, the new rumors abound that Tom Osborne wasn't that impressed with Pelini. Just like no one else was that impressed with Pelini when he interviewed the past few years. He couldn't get the Minnesota job last year...and now he's going to be HC at Nebraska??? The guys a GREAT DC...but honestly, he didn't get passed up this many times because he smelled funny or something!
I've lost ALL faith in WWL's analysis
