re: Relocating to the Gulf Coast
Posted by 60feet6inches on 1/30/25 at 2:38 pm to AlvisTimeAU
Texas has some nice areas for sure but doesn’t do anything to bring you much closer to your extended family. Fairhope is very nice and near them. Orange beach broke off from gulf shores schools and just built a brand new high school that is top notch. I find it pretty ironic when people that live in Louisiana say nowhere in MS. I grew up in LA and love my home state dearly but Madison, MS is a good bit nicer than almost anywhere in Louisiana. The Madison/ridgeland area has great restaurants, just got a top golf and the Brandon amphitheater is down the road. It attracts the big acts across all genres of music. The public schools in Madison are very good too. As mentioned before, ocean springs is a great city on the coast with possibly the best downtown area in the entire state. It also has good public schools. The state has been working on getting rid of income tax as well
re: Need a new 3/4 ton truck

Go drive the 7.3 gas f250 before making any final decisions on diesel. I have a 23 model. It has a ton of power and way better get up and go than you’d expect. Very comfortable ride for a 3/4 ton as well. The price on my lariat was significantly less than the diesel of the same trim.

Looking for 5 tickets in lower bowl for this weekend. If a parking pass is available would be interested in that too.

I have a 23 model 7.3 gas 250. It’s been a great in between for me. Gas mileage isn’t the best but it’s still cheaper than diesel and not all that much less than the half ton. It’s my favorite truck I’ve ever had. I think it would work well for your situation

Surprised there aren’t more ridge grappler recommendations. Taking into account price, ride quality, and longevity, It’s the correct answer by a long shot in my opinion. I’ve had Toyo and other brands, ridge grapplers now….by far the best I’ve had. My buddy owns a ford dealership and he said 35 ridge grapplers are the runaway best and most popular for the money on a f250.

I have a 23 lariat f250 with the 7.3. It’s a beast. Even if it had an issue in the future I’d just buy another one.

I’ve mentioned it before in the side by side threads but I bought one of these from a dealer over a year ago and couldn’t be happier. Mostly American made with a kohler engine. A little louder than a Polaris but performs really well. I bought the L7 crew cab.

Stricks bbq meat market in Hattiesburg isn’t mentioned much, and I’m not sure if they still process, but they used to do a really good pineapple pepper Jack sausage

I see all of the anti Ford stuff, but I personally know no less than 10 people who have had to replace their transmission or entire engine on a 2016-new GM/Chevy V8 truck/SUV before 100k miles. My neighbor bought a brand new top of the line Tahoe and it was in the shop more than his driveway for the first 6 months. They all have their issues but I wouldn't touch a GM product with someone else's money.

I’ve posted this before in side by side threads but If you have a dealer of these near you they are worth the look. I bought the crew cab L7 bout a year ago and have been very satisfied. In the last several years the brand has revamped itself to mostly American made parts with a kohler engine and new suspension. For the money it’s been worth it for me. The L5 and L7 pretty much all come stock from dealer with a powder coated diamond plate roof as well.

I’d stay away from US. I had some and they didn’t last long. Pretty much same story for everyone else I know that had em. Trojan is worth the extra money.

I just took a Blackstone with a cover and built it in. I do have it under the covered back porch though. I did not put the shelves or stand on it and built heat shield around and under it to keep the heat from radiating into the cabinets. I converted it to natural gas and hooked it into the house line. It has held up very well.

I put this on mine because it’s crew cab and needed rear speakers. They have a 2 speaker one for a little more than $100 on Amazon. It’s really loud but not a ton of bass. LINK
re: Best deer processor in Louisiana or MS
Posted by 60feet6inches on 8/17/22 at 10:31 am to The Levee
The Flora Butcher, just north of Madison MS, mixes wagyu in his ground meat. It is by far the best ground meat I have found. Its a little higher than most ground but worth it. We prefer it to even ground beef, and its cheaper than any ground beef you can buy. Everyone I have let try it can't believe its deer. I personally think his sausage price is too high to justify it over other local places but we just usually take our first deer to him and get all ground to last us a while
re: Is Madison, MS an upgrade from Prairieville?
Posted by 60feet6inches on 8/4/22 at 5:31 am to Chef Curry
I live in Madison but am originally from Louisiana. Madison is nicer than most towns in the south in any state. It’s growing quickly. The food scene is getting much better and there are a bunch of options just south in Ridgeland as well. If you live in Madison city limits it doesn’t matter which side of the interstate you are on really, nice neighborhoods on both sides. In gluckstadt area you certainly want to be on the west side of interstate if you have kids due to better elementary schools on that side. Housing ranges from 165/sq ft to 205/210 sq ft in neighborhoods like lake Caroline and Westlake. Reunion had some on the water go for around 300/sq ft this year but that’s an outlier. Lake Caroline has a 900 acre private lake, golf course, tennis courts, 3 swimming pools, and walking track. My buddy that lives in BR suburbs brings his family here and constantly states his frustration that Louisiana doesn’t have an area like it that he could move his family. Madison is a quiet family place but the amphitheater is right down the road and gets most of the big music and comedy acts. The Braves are just south in Pearl, and ridgeland is getting a top golf. There is the reservoir and pearl river for boating outside of Caroline. Other than LSU there are as many things to do in the metro area as there are Baton Rouge. I love my home state but I’d be hard pressed to say Madison is not a big step up from anywhere there as far as quality of life for a family.
re: Gulf Shores/Orange Beach condo prices
Posted by 60feet6inches on 7/15/22 at 9:08 am to baldona
We have a place down in orange beach. We are just getting hit with a $50-80k assessment for hurricane repairs. Our insurance company just settled with our board at a much lower amount than the actual costs. Sucks but not much choice other than to settle when you factor in the costs of lawyer fees and such. Even with that assessment coming, several condos in our complex are selling for 75-100k more than they were 6-9 months ago. I have spoken extensively to some business owners, brokers, and property managers in the area. They all believe the trend is here to stay, if not go up more. Orange beach continues to add attractions, new schools, and more local type restaurants. The brokers tell me they are constantly getting calls from California investors who can buy with cash at a fraction of the price they can out there. As long as they are interested, prices aren't going anywhere.
re: Unicorn workout: Is there a 20 minute full-body, body weight-only routine?
Posted by 60feet6inches on 5/29/22 at 1:37 pm to Sev09
Mark Lauren has designed some of the special forces workouts in the past. He has an app that provides multiple different programs ranging from 9-50 min workouts, as well as recovery and flexibility routines. He provides pull up options but also has a body weight substitute if you don’t have the pull up capability. I highly recommend his routines to someone looking for a body weight plan. His yearly subscription is under $100.
