Evening gentlemen. Hope to get some expertise on this. Wife and I currently have kid number 3 on the way and looking to get a more family friendly vehicle. I’ve got a Tundra and she’s got a Mercedes GLE 350 which was just fine with two kids but with sports and a 3rd having to be in a car seat we need something with a 3rd row.

We are currently looking at the ‘22 models to get a lower price than the new ones but both seem to be $60k + which seems absurd. Both look great and have good interiors. Gas mileage seems to favor the Tahoe but with the body style of the Expedition being the same since 2018 I am honestly considering getting a 20 or 21 with low mileage for $40k. The used Tahoe with the new body style is damn near impossible to find with that price.

Just seeing if anyone had any thoughts or preferences between the two if you own one or the other. Thanks.

As stated!!!! Cam Phasers…. Had an 18 with a 3.5 eco boost. Plenty of power. Before 30k miles Ford had been into my motor 4 times and never fixed it. Then it started leaking oil!

First, wait for 6 months and save yourself 10+k.

Second, don't get a GM or Ford right now.

Look at Yukons and Yukon XL’s.

We have 3 kids (3,2,1) and have a Yukon XL. Second row bench. We couldn’t do without that size vehicle on long road trips and the extra space is nice even on short road trips and for around town.

We had a Tahoe before child 2 arrived, but the Yukon XL’s we have had since feel a little better built.

The only trouble we’ve had out of any of them is that a fuel pump control module went out in our 2021 Yukon XL. It was a recall part that we didn’t get the notice on. It’s been at the dealership since the first week of December waiting on the part (there were only 5 in the US when it failed). But the dealership put us in a rental Yukon, so we’re not bitching too much… yet.

Otherwise, no troubles out of any full size GM SUV that we’ve had (up to around 90,000 miles when we trade them in).

XL only way to go. You’d think you would have room in a Tahoe, you don’t. I have XL and sis has regular. I laugh every time she has to pack her car

Truth. The extra room makes a big difference when you start packing kids and all of their gear into an SUV.

My sister and sister in law both have 2 kids, and they’ve driven different iterations of Yukon XL’s for 15 years. Not a problem in the bunch they’ve driven.

3 kids. 8, 6, 2. Travel softball. Cliche incoming

22 suburban z71. Fits everyone, drives and rides great, 4wd for sticky situations on the property. Will tow a decent amount too.

We got rid of our 21 Tahoe because it just wasn't enough for 3 kids. Wanted the Yukon xl but they were 10k higher for similarly equipped.

We have a 2018 Tahoe Z71. With one kid and sports equipment, it's fine. With 3? You better go Suburban or Yukon XL. Between lacrosse and baseball this spring...the back of my wife's Tahoe is gonna be loaded! Especially with games on the same day.

Have had a '06 Suburban Z71, a '12 Tahoe, and now a '22 Yukon Denali. Love all three of them, would buy another.

When out and about in town, keep an eye out for how many Tahoes/Yukon's you see vs. how many Expeditions you see; it's not even close.

I did. Pray 4 ya boi. Supposedly the bugs were worked out after the 2020 Expeditions.

For OP. We have a 2021. Regular size (not the MAX) with the 2nd row Capt's chairs. I like everything about it except the user interphase with the touch screen unit.

Or GM 6.2 lifters, or GM 5.3 lifters. They've all had their issues.

That said I'm Ford truck guy, I've had tons of them and have never really liked the ones from GM. On other hand, Wife has new Escalade and its the best highway cruiser you can buy. May downgrade her to a Suburban next go around, but we got the nicer car because it was available. Also agree with those who say go XL, Suburban, ESV, the cargo space on the regular version sucks. Neighbor got the Denali with a diesel and his fuel mileage is nearly double what we get the with 6.2.

agreed...as the saying goes....it truly rides like a Cadillac.

I had a Tahoe and the Escalade rides much smoother.

This happened to my wife's Escalade on our way home from a long road trip. Luckily we are almost home.

Just my personal opinion here....

Ford makes the better trucks, GMC/Chevy are the better SUV's

I see all of the anti Ford stuff, but I personally know no less than 10 people who have had to replace their transmission or entire engine on a 2016-new GM/Chevy V8 truck/SUV before 100k miles. My neighbor bought a brand new top of the line Tahoe and it was in the shop more than his driveway for the first 6 months. They all have their issues but I wouldn't touch a GM product with someone else's money.

100% this. A minivan will change your life and has more storage than a Tahoe, Expedition, Suburban, and Yukon XL.

They look like crap, but they are the single best vehicle for hauling kids. I owned a Tahoe and Expedition and I will die on this hill.

My wife drove a Toyota Sienna for a few years and now drives a Pacifica. These modern minivans are comfortable and have as much pep as a big SUV. They can’t tow of course but OP has a Tundra for that.

A Tahoe or Suburban isn’t any more fun to drive. I get there’s an image thing, but is anyone impressed by a Suburban?
