MSY - Parking

Have a trip on Friday and will be gone for two weeks. Normally use short term or surface lot, but may do economy since its substantially cheaper for the longer time frame. How bad is it? Also, checked on the US Park and it wasn't much cheaper than the long term....thoughts?

It isn't..especially if you check your bags there. Because it's covered we use it over US Parl if we are not using short term. Long term is overpriced so for us it's either short term or economy.
This is a post I made with timing. Less than 22 minutes from the time we parked our car in the lot until the time we were walking into the terminal and got to skip the counter altogether because our bags were already checked.

I usually use the people down the road as they have been dependable but parking in the garage has never been a problem. Although all parking in and around MSY is all about the same price now it seems. Place I usually go was $5-7.50 a day for a long time, recently saw they were only $1 cheaper than the surface lot at MSY.

if short term is open I park there no matter what. The couple bucks a day more is worth it. Long term is only slightly farther away, econo lot you have to take a shuttle but they have a large surface lot so you can avoid the garage. Adds 20-25 minutes to your arrival

It has been horrific lately. I have gone twice this summer on non holiday weekends. Once every spot was gone in all garages so I had to park in the economy lot at the old airport which SUCKED.
The second time there was like 2 spots left in the surface lot, all other garages were full.
From here on out I am reserving

And I always try to park on level 4 so I can walk right into the Terminal at the Airline ticket counter level.
Over July 4th I had to park at the old terminal. It was a shitshow (surprised?) when I returned to try to get back to the old airport overflow parking area.
Raining. The only buses at the new terminal went exclusively to the Rental Car area. I grabbed the second one of those shuttles and walked from where it dropped me at the rental center back to the old parking garage. Walking past Concourses D & C was dystopian.

It is truly an awful experience to have to park in the old terminal/economy lot

When I originally parked at the old terminal, I caught the shuttle and the shuttle before that one had gotten rear-ended (
) on its way to the new terminal. The accident happened at the intersection of the access road and Vets. JPSO was vociferously working that, some of the riders of the wrecked one got on our shuttle, the guy who sat down beside me from it said the Cop announced to everyone on the wrecked shuttle “Don’t even try to sue the bus company, they got immunity because it’s part of the airport.”
Typical NOLA shite.

the last time we were forced into the econo garage some idiot got in a wreck on the ramp up between garage floors and shut the whole garage down. Cars were stuck with no way out
Fortunately we were able to mcgyver out of it and parked on the surface lot which was way better anyway. So if econo is the only option, park outside

Yes, if not doing a rideshare we always reserve a spot now.

Much of which can be made up by checking bags at the garage and not the terminal
