I think the "jab" is referring to the fact that Nick said he wouldn't pay a player before he earns it. He's not supposed to be paying any players to come to Alabama and yet that's what he said.

I don't get the "slight jab" description. It's a pretty straight forward account of what Saban said. Lane was merely repeating it. Maybe Lane supports Saban doing what I'm sure a lot of other coaches would like to do.
