You have to wait 2 hours minimum to talk to anyone with them. No matter what.

Try actually flying. Awful

Oh, we flew and they lost our luggage.

Today AA charged me $100 because my bag was 4 pds over the 50 pd limit. Had I checked a second bag the charge would have been $40.

Penny pinching budgets?
They definitely hate their customers.

I'm DFW based and was Exec. Platinum and walked away from AA last year, they pissed me off that much. I moved to Delta or United and, if I have to, Southwest instead.
They are awful and DUI Dougie's retirement can't come soon enough

I agree AA is horrible but I flew Delta and I feared for my life on the Reagan era jets they have.

Don't look at when those AA jets were built then....

The AA jets I've flown on were fine. And I am in Dallas so fly on them all the time. I flew Delta before the pandemic to Philly and connected to Lisbon and it was like flying aeroflot.

Grew up in Dallas. AA has always been a crap company. They are poorly run and don’t give a crap about their employees. They run any competition out of business if they can (e.g. Braniff and Legend—SWA found a way to beat them despite numerous attempts by AA to keep them small and regional.)
It’s got a corporate culture of insecurity and poor leadership that’s led to multiple bankruptcies.
Also, keep in mind, they’re not really American. USAir bought them out several years ago. Unfortunately, they adopted AA’s dysfunction.

I get a general sense of apathy from AA employees. Basically if shite hits the fan or you have an issue and need help, it's not their problem and they won't go out of their way to assist.
Asked a gate agent in Baton Rouge to go standby on an earlier flight last year and she added me to the list. Then during boarding for that flight she paged my name and yelled at me for not boarding despite her not printing the new boarding pass or letting me know I made it on. Once in Dallas, customer service guy didn't feel like adding me to standby list for the next flight so had to run over to that gate and barely made the cutoff time to get added.

AA has the youngest fleet of all the legacy carriers. Only fleets younger are regional airlines like Alaska, Hawaiian, Frontier, etc.
Only Allegiant has an older fleet than Delta and not by that much.

quote:FIFY. The worst airline is whichever one you fly the most. When I flew several hundred thousand miles a year, I used to refuse to fly SW Airlines because I had all the perks from the big carriers, upgrades, lounge access, etc. I thought SWA was basically a flying Greyhound bus. Now, I like them. They're the Chick Fil A of airlines. Don't do a lot of stuff, but what they do, they do well. Planes are clean, people are nice, they take off and land on time and rarely cancel flights. I just want to go from point A to point B and not have a miserable experience. They do that.

ok, the exception that proves the rule

alaska (or at least horizon, their regional carrier) operates a shuttle several times a day between phoenix and boise. a joy to fly.
also have family in WA and lots of options into sea-tac from both phoenix and boise.

EXP with AA. No issues. I’m not a fan of the new LP program, so we will see.

Also - If you don’t have status, message them on twitter. Trust me, the fastest and best.

To be appreciated by any airline you need to have mileage status with them. American treats me well because of my Advantage miles. United has not been good to me at all because they don't fly best to where I go most.

Alaska out of Sea-Tac is a legit transcontinental hub. Direct flights from there to most US destinations, mainland, Alaska, or Hawaii. I believe Charlotte (served directly by American if you dare), La Guardia, and Houston-Hobby are the largest airports not serviced from SEA by Alaska.
Traveling out of Seattle, especially east used to totally suck. Now it’s a Delta hub too to keep prices honest.
