If you could go for a week (in the summer) anywhere in the US .

We decided to cancel our alaskan cruise we had planned for June and just got a pile of refund money/flight credit back but still wanna go somewhere cool. We are kinda tired of the beach tbh. Was kinda thinking maybe Yellowstone. We enjoyed white water rafting a lot last summer. What yall got ?

Friend,

Yellowstone is an excellent suggestion. Rocky Mountain National Park, Great Smoky Mountains NP, Yosemite, and Mt Rainier are other excellent destinations if you enjoy the outdoors. I particularly like NYC in early and late summer. New Hampshire is lovely. New Mexico is surprisingly nice as well.

I just reserved my camping spots for a week in Yellowstone.

On my way I'm gonna camp in Stanley, ID and raft the Salmon river.

Big 5 in Utah, if you haven't been, is a good choice too.

Thanks guys. Def have some planning to do. Just didn't wanna sweat it out on the Alaskan cruise situation again like last summer. Still not looking good for 21' . And if I wait until they officially cancel it'll be like last year and take 2-3 months to get a refund.

We went to Rocky Mt. NP, Yellowstone & just drove through Grand Teton NP in Aug 2019. First time and wish we had gone years ago and would very much like to go back.

Some people prefer GTNP to YS but based on my limited experience that would seem to depend on what you like to do. You can see a lot in YS by driving and a little walking. Someone posted some great pictures on the TB of GTNP but they had hiked long distances. You can spend time in both during a week.

Awesome. Thanks for the suggestions. Last year when covid crapped on the alaskan cruise we kept our flight to Seattle and visited Olympic national park, mt rainier NP, and North cascades. We did some white water rafting on the sauk River near north cascades NP. was a very nice trip. We love the mountains and good scenery. I decided to try and venture out more on these trips after decades of Florida panhandle visits.

We're talking about flying into Jackson wy and spending a day rafting snake river and check out grand teton national park. After that we could drive up to Yellowstone and spend a couple days there checking out the park. Thought we'd finish up with a longish drive (6 ish hours) up to glacier national park to spend 2-3ish days and fly back out of kalispell mt. Seems like a lot in a week but would cover some pretty sweet parks with lots of sights. You think this is doable?

I do but there are others with more experience there than me. Maybe they will offer an opinion. I have not been to Glacier NP.

You said Yosemite but I think you meant Yellowstone. We spent 3 nights in YS, stayed in the park, and saw most of the major sites. It is a big area and takes time to get around and if you only stay two nights you will have to decide what to skip.

I believe one of YS roads will be closed all year and that will make it a harder to get around efficiently. The road between the canyon area and Lamar Valley is supposed to be closed. Lamar Valley is one of the best, but not only, place to see wildlife. You can still get to LV though.

This is what I would do. I was initially thinking Montana, but this is basically the same.

We stayed in the hotel at Lake Yellowstone. But we booked late and the choices were limited. It was fine, had been remolded not too many years ago but expensive and not the best location for getting to some sites.

Good advice by some of the TB YS frequent visitors is to stay one or two nights in one location and then one or two in another. We did not do that but after being there I understand the logic. But if you are only staying in the park two nights it is probably best to just stay in one place. The town of West Yellowstone is a good place but you have to drive into the park and possibly wait in line to get in. But, the food is better there.

If you can get rooms I would stay at Old Faithful and Roosevelt Lodge. The issue with RL is the rooms are small cabins mostly without a bathroom. But RL is closest to Lamar Valley and the best odds for seeing wildlife is early and late. The Canyon area would be a good option but if the road is closed between there and LV then Mammoth Springs is better, IMO. If we go back I will stay in Old Faithful and Roosevelt Lodge if I can convince the SO to stay there.

Canyon Village is covered up on the map by the icons and Old Faithful's labels did not display but it is the hotel in the SW corner; south of Firehole. Grant Village is the southernmost lodging.

1. Utah - would like to see SLC and also the national parks. Maybe drive up into Yellowstone or go into Southern Utah. Haven't been back since I was a kid.

2. Oregon/Washington. Been a few years, but I do miss the forests and coastlines.

You could a grand tour of Grand Teton, Yellowstone, and Glacier.

Although if you’re looking at just a week, Glacier or Teton/Yellowstone makes more sense.

We did Grand Teton & Yellowstone last summer - stayed in Teton Village (less than a mile or so from the park entrance). Had an awesome time even though the weather cancelled a few of our plans. Would definitely recommend. We all preferred GT to Yellowstone, just due to the amazing scenery and it's easy to get around as it's a much smaller park.

Just booked a place for Glacier this summer, flying into Kalispell from MSY.

Four days in Jackson Hole/Teton’s, three days Yellowstone.

Not a doubt in mind. My favorite place on Earth.

Second choice would be the Utah Big 5’s. Moab(Arches and Canyonlands), Zion, Bryce Canyon,,,,

Snake River, Tetons, Yellowstone, AND Glacier in a week.

That is insane.

Pick Glacier (my preference) or Yellowstone. Yellowstone is enormous. So is Glacier. It's a long drive between them. If you're dying to do more than one then Tetons/Yellowstone, they are next to each other.

Olympic National Park in Washington. Stay at Lake Crescent Lodge. You'll thank me later.
