When did the Amex Centurion lounge at the airport stop allowing guests?

Having a little weekend getaway with my 20 year old and they charged me $50 to bring in my son.

The lady said it’s been the policy for several years, but I totally threw the bullshite flag, we make 4–5 family trips every year and I’ve never, not once, ever had to pay for a guest.

You aren’t spending enough on your AmEx Plat.

Been that way for a while. You've probably hit the spend requirement in previous years which waives the fee or had them as authorized users

Is that $50 really worth it? He isn't drinking. I get that you can. I get that Airports are expensive. I don't fly THAT much and I'm not around the lounges THAT much, but I just don't see how paying for lounge really makes sense.

ETA: And yeah I'm not an AMEX user but this has been around for a good bit

$50 shouldn't be a problem.

The lounge in Atlanta is very nice.

Ah good call.

We have the united club card for all spend, amex for occasional things.

Thanks!

As others mentioned a few years unless you spend 75K in calendar year. Your Platinum does give you Priority Pass lounge access (you have to register in app) that lets you access other lounges + 2 guests for free. Their quality is much more varied than the Centurion lounges but there are a lot more of them for when you need to bring guests.

They are pretty reliably the most solid lounge network going

They just unfortunately also tend to be the most crowded

Agree and that was the reason behind the no free guests unless 75k spend, to try to get it under control.

However, I don't know how much its actually helping from my experience. The same airports that were overcrowded are still and the ones that weren't, aren't

I think the new Chase Sapphire Lounges are slightly better than Centurion, but Centurion has a larger footprint with more airports.

We went to the Chase Sapphire lounge in Philly two weekends ago and it was insanely nice. Nicest domestic lounge I’ve been to.
