Wanting to do a simple quick trip to Atlanta with the wife and son(7) before school starts back up. Main reason is to visit the aquarium with the whale sharks and manta rays. Also considering catching a Braves game (although I am a Cardinals fan) and maybe the CocaCola or children's museums. Anything else I definitely should check out with the family? Or anything you would definitely NOT recommend? Thanks!

Stone Mountain would be a good time. Lots to do out there including a cool children's area and a laser show at dusk every night during the summer.

College football hall of fame is near the aquarium and has cool interactive stuff for the kids too.

We ate brunch at a place called Nooks that was a really cool spot and had an insane Bloody Mary. Right next to Piedmont park which is a great park.

Enjoy the traffic.

My wife is obsessed with bloody mary's so I could definitely win some brownie points with that!

You must visit the baseball park. It is awesome. (Astros fan here)
Head out to Conyers and get Nana's fried chicken in waffles.

The aquarium is great. The coca-cola tour wasn't for me.

Depends what you are into. You can visit "shoot the hooch" and kayak, canoe, or tube down the Chattahoochee for a while. Six Flags is pretty decent if your kid likes amusement parks. Legoland in Buckhead isn't bad. My son liked the Natural History Museum at about your kid's age. Ponce City Market offers lots of meal and dessert options.

If I were you, I would skip the Coca-Cola museum. It has a few cool things, but for the most part it is one giant advertisement. I honestly liked the older version better, where it focused more on the history of the company and didn't have all of the interactive/marketing pieces.

The aquarium is amazing, so certainly check that out, and I would also recommend the College Football Hall of Fame.

There are a lot of good food choices in that area of town, but if it were me I would suggest MaryMac's for a good southern meat and two.

You might also want to look into the zoo. It has pandas, including a set of cubs that are adorable, as well as a large group of lowland gorillas and orangutans. If you go to the zoo, be sure to check out Fox Brothers BBQ which is nearby. Some of the best bbq in Atlanta, and done Texas style. The salt & pepper brisket is amazing.

The museum at the Center for Puppetry Arts has the officially sanctioned Jim Henson/Muppets collection, and the center puts on some amazing shows in their theater (although be sure to check the website because some of the shows are geared more for teens and adults).

Suntrust is a great park, but just know that it is a bit removed from the other attractions, so you may have to deal with some traffic.

ETA: One lesser known attraction in metro Atlanta is the Southeastern Railway Museum in Duluth. They have a number of both steam and diesel powered locomotives and a variety of other rolling stock. If your kid likes trains, he might love this.

You guys are awesome. I appreciate all the good advice. Pleasantly surprised no trolls have jumped in to the thread yet!

This. My favorite BBQ joint in Atlanta. The only one that really even comes close for me is Heirloom.

The Varsity is popular for what it is. I'm sure that a 7 year old would love it.

Antico is the best pizza in Atlanta. Authentic Neapolitan style pizza.

Sublime Donuts is a must for some of the best donuts in the country.

I'm a big fan of Hankook Taqueria, but not not sure if it would be big with a seven year old.

I am thinking we will go to a Braves game Friday night after driving in that afternoon, and hit up the aquarium on Saturday, which leaves Sunday open to do something else, I am leaning towards Stone Mountain. We will probably be able to squeeze something else in on Saturday with the aquarium but just hanging out a hotel pool will be nice as well.

Definitely want to hit up Fox Brothers based on all of the high marks you guys have given it. Probably Varsity before the Braves game.

If you are staying downtown, you could hit Fox Bros. on the way to Stone Mountain.

As for Fox Bros. go when they open or be ready to wait.

If you haven't gone online to see Stone Mountain

Definitely go to a Braves game, but if you're in the Aquarium/Centennial area on 7/21 (not home the following weekend), Atlanta United will be at home. It's definitely the most energized atmosphere of Atlanta sports and the stadium is sure to impress a seven year old (and you).

Even if you don't go to the game, that will make for a good atmosphere around that area if you're staying near the park.

We've been wanting to go to a Five Stripes game, but we aren't sure if it's appropriate for a 3 1/2 year old. Thoughts? He's been to Braves and Hawks games and did great, but I know that soccer fans are on another level.

The only cons I can think of are that it's loud and can be pretty expensive for a kid that age. I wouldn't worry about fellow fans, it doesn't get that crazy. I'd recommend an afternoon game. If you want you can position yourself several sections away from the supporter's section, but it's really not necessary.

Beware the bag rules if you usually bring snacks and stuff for your son to that type of thing.

Thanks!

He already has his shirt and everything and knows some chants. Can't wait to take him. Gonna book some tickets soon.

I am checking out Fernbank online right now...it sounds cool...ovbiously its designed to be more educational than Stone Mountain, which is a good thing. I am not sure we are going to be able to squeeze in a trip to both places so I now have to decide which one to pick...

Don't go to Stone Mt. It's cheesy as hell.
